We left the desert immediately and picked up our friends outside a restaurant. They piled in smiling and laughing.

"Who told my parents!" Chris said angrily as our friends piled into the van. "Hi! Excuse him. We just got a scary call from his parents threatening us if we didn't join them for dinner. So we were wondering how they knew where we are." I said as politely as possible. Daniel, Keith and Lucas looked genuinely scared for us. "You can't go!" Daniel said shaking. "You know what they did. You'd be crazy to bring Lindy! Why did you pick up the phone in the first place?" Daniel was really worried and I had no idea why. "Someone picked it up for me," Chris said, annoyed. "Don't get mad Dude. She didn't know! You should have told her!" Keith said coming to my rescue. "Getting back on the subject. Who told my parents?" "None of us." The boys said. "If I saw your parents I'd kick them." Lucas said. Chris and Daniel stepped out. Lucas had never said a violent word in his life so we all laughed except Chris and Daniel who were in a serious conversation outside of the car. I wanted to go out to them but Lucas and Keith stopped me. Kara sat petrified in the backseat. I looked at Daniel and Chris's worried expressions. What did his parents do?

Chris and Daniel both climbed into the car. "Hey Chris, what do your parents look like?" Kara asked in a small voice. He whipped around. "Why?" He asked in a harsh voice. "My mother has dark did up hair that looks like something died. My father is graying, and I look like him, sadly." Kara breathed in nervous. "I.... saw them walking into a casino. They saw the van and they asked where we were heading, and I said California, and they whispered to one another. I didn't know who they were I'm sorry," Chris banged his head on the steering wheel making the horn honk.

I rubbed his back. "How bad can it be? It's just your parents." I tried. He groaned and hit his head again. "Daniel! Help me!" I whined. "You don't know his parents Lindy. I'm not gonna spoil the surprise because if Chris wanted you to know, he would have told you." He said worriedly. "Sorry I didn't stop you Kara. What did they say?" "They invited us to dinner and said if we don't go they stop the trip and make us go. I don't understand how they can stop our trip," I said unbelieving. The boys shared a look. "You can't go," Daniel said. "It's too dangerous for Lindy. I don't care what they say," "It's too dangerous not to," Chris said. "I believe what they say. They will stop the trip and find me and Lindy. We'll go, maybe....." he trailed off lost in thought. "If something happens get a rental and get out, ok? Here's some cash that should get something big enough," He handed Daniel some cash. This was serious. He started driving to where we would camp in the desert. Everyone sat silently leaving my questions to swim in my head. I tried to distract myself, but I burst.

"What happened? Why are you so nervous? How bad could it possibly be? The dreams are one thing but this fear is something totally different. What's the big deal? Just tell me! Please!" I questioned exasperated. Chris locked eyes with mine that were pleading for any kind of answer. He swerved and parked the car. He opened his door and slammed it shut as he got out. He ran over to my side and grabbed my wrist pulling me into the desert a look of rage, confusion and sadness was plastered on his face.
