Broken Luna

Chapter 23

Warning: TW Fighting, blood, death, and graphic content. 

What. the. fuck. Did I hear him correctly? There's no way the Zachary Shadowmoon is asking a vampire to help him, out of all people. Wait, I can't let him fight for me. I rejected the guy's "interest" in me as well as mine of him. I can't let him or any of his people get killed for me when I don't even want him in the first place. 

"Zachary you can't be serious. I won't let him fight for me, nor his people! They have nothing to do with this and they'll get themselves killed!", I try to reason with him. 

He puts up his hand to silence me as I gape at him, enraged that he won't listen. 

"We need the help and as long as he's willing, we'd greatly appreciate any amount of assistance. Right Tanner?", he looks at him with a cold and demanding stare. 

"Y-Yes sir, absolutely", he manages to say as he stutters and looks at Zach with wide eyes. 

A few more seconds pass before he speaks up again, "Fantastic! I'll need a few of your guards at my border as well as everyone to be prepared for a war, it seems Alpha Ian wasn't very fond of us after the ball". 

The corners of his mouth almost instantly lift up into a satisfied smirk from whatever Onyx had responded with. 

"I'm sure you'll be given the chance for a second go at him soon enough but you won't be alone in it this time", Zach says with that same look of satisfaction. 

His smirk seems to drop to a slight frown before he continues the conversation, "I see. I do suppose that would assist in protecting our pack quite a bit, especially Lucy. Very well Onyx, see you soon my friend". 

I raise an eyebrow and tilt my head in confusion as he hangs up and sits the phone back on his desk. 

"So? What happened? What did you mean by see you soon?  Since when is he your friend?", I begin interrogating him with the obvious questions that remain unanswered at this moment. 

He raises a hand in defense, attempting to put off my interrogation. 

"I'm your Luna and you will answer my questions!", I demand in my Luna tone. 

His eyes go wide as he looks up at me before sighing in defeat. 

"He agreed to help us but he said it would be best for not only our people, but his too, if he were to stay with us until it's all over. He isn't really a friend, more of an acquaintance. Though, if he is to stay here with us we must treat him as a friend. We can't afford to lose him as an ally, especially right now", he states sternly. 

"Wait so we're going to have vampires living here, with us?", Tanner asks him as if he's gone crazy. 

Honestly, I agree. Has he gone crazy? Where will they feed? Who's to say they won't feed on our people? What if his kingdom gets attacked for helping us? Though, do we really have a choice? We can't do this on our own, either we risk a few people being eaten by vampires or we risk losing our entire pack. 

"Yes, It's surprisingly the safest option for our pack right now. Now we'll be ready for whatever Alpha Ian throws our way", he smirks smugly while leaning back in his chair. 

Time Skip One Week

I hate to admit it but, Zach was right. The attacks have went so well for us that they've almost ceased entirely. This could mean one of two things, Ian gave up, or he's preparing for a full on war. Onyx's people have not fed in our pack and everyone has gotten along, for the most part at least. Zach, Onyx, Tanner, and I haven't been needed at the border for days so we've actually had time to plan for the worst. We're currently sitting in Zach's office going through the attack reports when one of our warriors comes bursting in the door. 

"Haven't I taught you anything about manners? Always knock befo-", he looks up from his desk mid sentence and immediately shuts up. 

The warrior is covered in fresh wounds and blood. Onyx's eyes darken but he quickly adverts his gaze and covers his nose to help from smelling it. 

"I'm sorry Alpha but there's been another attack, the whole west border has been wiped out. I'm the only survivor but-", he's cut off by his own groan as he falls to his knees. 

His eyes begin to close and open a lot slower as he looks up to Zach who rushes to his side. He clutches his stomach and that's when I notice the large hole in his body, draining blood quickly. He doesn't have much time left. 

"But what? Come on, stay with me!", Zach yells as he applies pressure to the man's wound and stares down at him. 

"He's here", is the last thing the warrior says as his body goes limp. 

Zach's eye instantly lock on mine as I see the rage coursing through them with a slight bit of fear. He turns to Tanner as his eyes glaze over, clearly mind linking. 

After a few moments he turns to Onyx, "The warriors have all been notified and are heading that way. We'll need you to track Ian's location in the pack, he's the most important enemy and has to be taken out as soon as possible. Every nearby citizen is being brought here to the pack house for safety. Lucy will stay here with a few guards to ensure her safety as well as theirs". 

I glare at him in surprise, "Wait that's not the plan we had in mind, I'm supposed to fight for our pack not sit back like some damsel in distress! You could get hurt, die even, and I wouldn't know!". 

He sighs aggressively before standing up and walking to the door, "We don't have time for this. It's the best way to keep you safe and I wouldn't be able to fight with the fear of something happening to you. I'll have Tanner and Onyx with me, I'll be fine". 

I decide now isn't the time for arguing and instead follow them out of the room quickly. The halls of the pack house now completely empty, for the first time I've ever seen. The boys lead me to the meeting room before opening the door quickly. I notice about a hundred pack members huddled in the room, fear filling all their eyes. I go in and stand against the wall near them, beginning to make conversation with some of them to try easing their minds. Zach nods to me before leaving the room with Onyx and Tanner. That boy better stay safe or I'll kill him myself, I swear.
