Broken Luna

Chapter 18

His father speaks up, "I trust I'm making a good decision here and won't be receiving any calls on your behalf".

"You won't. I have everything taken care of father, you won't be hearing from me", Zach states coldly.

"Now, now son, don't be afraid to call and check in occasionally. You know your mother and I would love to know how you're doing", he says while smiling.

Zach chuckles coldly as his mother scoffs.

"Goodbye father, have a good trip", Zach says before turning on his heels and pulling me with as we walk out of the room.

I follow along beside him, probably looking like a lost puppy as I don't know where we're going.

He looks down at me and smiles before mind linking me, "We're going to my office honey".

I nod and return to observing my surroundings, greeting a few people on the way past. Once we arrive at his office, he opens the door for me and motions to go inside. I do as he says and walk in before standing by his desk and waiting for him. He closes the door and sits at his desk before patting his thigh as he looks up at me. I smile and sit on his lap as he holds me close while typing on his computer with his other hand.

I lay my head on his shoulder and speak softly, "What are you up to?".

He pets my head for a few moments before returning to his keyboard and answering my question, "I'm making arrangements for the yearly ball that's coming up".

I pull away a little and look up at him, "It's soon?"'

He nods, "Yeah it's next week. Ironic that my lovely parents decided to leave right as the plans needed done, huh? Now it's just up to me and Tanner to figure everything out and send out invites".

"I can help babe! I am the Luna after all", I say happily.

He smiles and kisses my cheek, "I know you are baby and I suppose you can help if you want but I don't want you to over do it on your first day as Luna".

I brush him off and turn around on his lap as I look at his computer and begin scrolling through the invitations needed. I spot the MANY boxes of cards in the corner of the room so I grab them and get to work as Zach sighs and holds me.

Three Hours Later

Three hours just to make invitations for the ball. At first glance, the guest list didn't look too long! Well it turns out, that was just our pack's list instead of the SIX packs and some of Onyx's kingdom that we get along with. Zach helped a little bit but for the most part I did it myself and though it may be small, I'm quite proud of myself. I hand the last box of invitations to one of the pack warriors before sitting back in my chair with a sigh. Zach walks in curiously, raising an eyebrow at me as he looks over at the pile of empty boxes from all the cards and envelopes. 

"You're done?", he asks as if it should have taken longer. 

"Yeah? Why wouldn't I be, you literally told me everything to write and gave me the list of names, it wasn't that hard", I state as I glare at him. 

He chuckles and walks up to me before lifting me off the chair and sitting down with me on his lap. I snuggle up against him and smile as I nuzzle my face into the crook of his neck. 

"You did fantastic princess, I'm so proud of you" he whispers into my ear.

His words send chills down my spine, causing me to shutter.

"Thank you", I say softly.

He kisses my cheek gently before standing up with me in his arms. He begins carrying me out of the room as I look around at where we're going. 

"It's late dear, we're heading to bed. I'm tired and we have a busy week ahead of us so it's best to rest while we still can", he whispers just loud enough for us to hear as he walks towards our bedroom. 

I just nod and let him carry me as I close my eyes and honestly, I'm tired too. Exhausted actually, my wrists burn after writing for three hours straight and my eyelids are like paper being pinned down by massive boulders. The movement from Zach's footsteps mixed with his warm arms cradling me closely, begins to affect me as I become drowsy almost instantly. I take one last look up at Zach as I see him smile before closing my eyes and letting sleep take over me. 

One Week Later

I've been beyond busy the past week, it turns out that Zach's "lovely" parents left us tons of unfinished paperwork and pack matters to handle. On top of that, when he mentioned it to them all they had to say was that it's "our responsibility now" and if we fuck any of it up it's just "proof of being unqualified" as Alpha and Luna. Oh yeah AND we had to order and arrange everything for the ball, all within a week. We finally finished it all last night, the night before the ball. I am currently walking hand in hand with Zach by my side as we make our way to the ballroom where the event is being held. Nearly everyone has arrived by now and those who aren't here, are on their way. The ball begins officially in fifteen minutes so we decided we should head down now and begin greeting guests. Upon walking through the ballroom doors, I notice tons of people dancing to the slow, relaxing music. Some people stand around at the edge of the dance floor, sipping drinks and talking amongst other guests. My eyes scan the crowd slowly as I try to recognize anyone and fail. I've never been invited to any of these things since I wasn't high enough ranking to be considered "important" in the pack. My eyes come to a screeching halt as they lock on the one person I didn't expect to see here. 

WOOO three chapters (two different books) in one day? Go me! Anyways haha, here is chapter eighteen! I hope you like it and I am currently working on the next chapter but it probably won't be posted until next week unless I get a lot of progress done today. 

Slight update: Chapters 19 and 20 are written and scheduled to be posted on Sunday 8:00 and 8:15 AM EST (one week from this chapter)!
