"Alpha, there's been a big amount of missing humans plus those who have been murdered. The police have no leads on either of them." One of the werewolf policeman concluded.
I look over all the faces in the building as the pack meeting came to a roar of protest. Everyone obviously cared what happened to the humans.
I tried to care, really, I did. But it's just lately I haven't been able to feel. To feel sadness or happiness or anger or anything. All for the exception of the hope that my Beloved was alive with Bruce to care for her.
The suggestion came from the corner of the room. "It can't be a coincidence that that many people are missing and dying." Very familiar young voice hollered over the crowd. "I have a feeling it has something to do with either rogues or rapids."
Every head in the room turned to frown at Ana, Anthony and Seth's little sister. With a nod from me she cautiously moved out of the shadows and walked to stand by my side on stage. She gulps as everyone waits for her to speak.
"Go on," I encourage, "whatever you have to say will help us."
She cleared her throat before stuttering, "W-well I-I - I've been looking through police files-"
"Wait," Carl, the policeman, interrupts, "you hacked one of the top security police stations without any one of us knowing?"
He didn't sound accusing, actually he sounded shocked and amused. Ana's face turned beet red as she nods hesitantly.
"I'll be damned," he chuckled.
"What's so funny?" Anthony snapped, at his sisters defense.
Carl grins, tittering, "Grown men and women can't even break into our system." Giving Ana a thoughtful look. "In the future you could make one hell of a dective in the police force. Think about it."
She beams at him, then, with a confidence that seemed to shine through her, continued, "There's no type of animal who would be able to cause such gruesome wounds to the men and women murdered. The police claim it to be animal attacks but recent data shows that humans have something to do with it."
I nod my thanks at her. She smiles shyly, bows, and walked off the stage with a head held high, eyes shining.
"From what we've seen of the conditions of the deceased Beta Anthony, Third in command Seth, and I know it was from rapids that is causing all the chaos." The crowd bristled in fear and loathing.
When familiar figures walked through the door in the back of the room ever head again turned and stared at them. The people I'd grown fond of were nothing like that of how they looked before I'd last seen. Alex was the oldest and more rugged looking, muscled, quite tall, a nicely trimmed beard, and strong jaw that the two younger brothers carried, including the muscles and broad shoulders and height.
They were all so similar, yet so different. The only differences between the three was Alex's grey eyes, dark curly hair, and bigger gaint. Wheras Derrick was more leaner, has dark blue eyes, and Sandy blonde hair that contrasted well with his face. Since Paul was the youngest he was always more boyish but now, as I took in the disheveled brown hair and tired piercing yellow eyes I knew that the who person stood in front of me was not the cheerful guy I once knew. Paul was a man. A man that went through a lot.
Alex, Derrick, and Paul moved in an almost zombie-like way that reminded me of me. I probably looked worse, though.
Clearing a sudden dry throat I tilt my head as a sign of respect for the three Alpha's. "Welcome, my brothers," I greet.
