"3, 2, 1. . .Happy New Year!" The sound of people counting down and yelling almost blew out my eardrums, but it made a sort of comfort go through me.New Years Eve is always good to start anew, to have a new beginning for your family and yourself. At least that's what I planned. The only thing really holding me and my family of four back is the present that someone left on our doorstep when it was Christmas six days ago.
The cards words haunted me still. It'd said, To what is mine: Enjoy the gift, Isabella.
I remember shredding the expensive looking paper and ripping the box open. I'd held a hand to my mouth to hold in a gasp of awe. It was a necklace, but it was no ordinary necklace, though. The necklace was pure silver, the chain itself made of silver feathers connecting to each other.
But what drew my attention the most, the one thing that chilled and snapped me out of the trance I was in, was what was hanging on the chain. A huge eagle was there; he was made of all black, black feathers, black beak, and most of all his black eyes. Eyes that seemed to look at and through me at the same time. His mighty wings were spread out, longer than his own body.
Something flashed inside him, Isabella cried out, and I got rid of the cursed necklace.
How could the Alpha King have known where I lived? I'd thought to myself as I'd ran to a cliff that overlooked the ocean.
'He couldn't have known,' the good in me had argued. I knew she was right.
'It's probably from your crazy parents,' the dark voice snarled.
I took their word over mine and returned to the house after throwing the necklace as far as I could. That necklace carried away the bad, and in its place I took, standing as a protector. Isabella was out of the way and that means Zachery was next.
The touch of my mate brought me back to the present and out of the bad memory. Tingles spread throughout my whole body. His touch gentle, Vincent turned me around, brushing the back of his hand against my cheek. Our eyes met and held, understanding showing through his eyes.
"He won't get near Zachery or Isabella, I promise," Vincent said firmly. His eyes darkened, jaw clenched.
I swallow back a sob and instead took his hand into mine, smiling warmly. "I know, Vince." I stood on my tip toes and kissed his lips. "Now let's stop talking about the past, let's focus on the future."
"Sounds good to me," he said, leaning down and kissing me deeply. I smiled into the kiss. He can be so cute at times.
I reluctantly pull away, opening my eyes and giving him a once over. "You're looking mighty fine tonight," I whispered in his ear while resting my hand on his muscled chest.
His arm wrapped around my waist and yanked my body to his. Our breathing deepened, the tension between us thick.
"Maybe we should give them some privacy," Someone whispered loudly.
We blinked and we were suddenly back at the field with yells and laughter coming back. Looking around in confusion, I gaze at my group stood watching us.
"Um, hi?" Emmett said in confusion. We chuckle at him. "What's so funny?"
"You." We all said together. He frowns.
"He's not that funny." Bruce's teasing voice came from beside me, I turn my head with a raised eyebrow, a goofy grin on my face.
Slinging an arm around his huge neck, I kiss his cheek. "It's okay if you don't understand Emmett Bruce, we know how you feel," I laugh.
