"You're going to call her and tell her how you got here" I toss Sabelo his phone. "We don't have to tell her-" I cut him off. "I'm not negotiating with you, call her"
"Kodwa nawe uyamazi uMawakho ukuthi unjani" He contemplates. "Do you want me to call her instead?" I raise an eyebrow at him. "Can you... like... excuse yourself, please get me something to eat while you're away"
I walk out of the room, and out of the hospital. I spend atleast two hours in the office before collecting Sabelo's stuff and driving back to the hospital.
I walk in, heading down to the elevator. Her hand continuously taps on the button when her eyes meet with mine. I get in before the doors close, she heavily sighs.
She moves to the other side of the elevator, ignoring my presence. My gaze stays fixed on her as she keeps on stealing glances at her watch. "How long are you going to keep on staring at me for?" She asks without looking at me.
"Why have you been ignoring my calls?" My jaw tightens. "I told you that I was done... I want nothing to do with you, please respect that" The elevator dings and she walks out with me following behind her.
"Yoh hhayi marn, can't you just leave me alone?!" She gritts ot, irritated. "I'm not following you" I tilt my head to the side. "You're not slick" Her hands rest on the door before she pushes it open.
I walk in right after she does. "You can't be in here" She tries to push me out. I raise an eyebrow at her as I step into the room, the same room I paid for. "Do you have my food?" - Sabelo.
"Oh... Hey Entle" He winks, her attention shifts to him and she softly smiles whilst checking his vitals. I feel the paper bag crumbling in my hand. "I want my money back" I hand him the paper bag.
"You're two hours late, you're not licking a cent of my money. Ma says she's on her way back from Cape Town" He nervously chuckles. "She's not in Cape Town" I trail off.
"Oh uhm... yazi it's probably these pain killers, driving me crazy and stuff" He hesitantly says. "Nxn. Call her" He immediately pulls out his phone, placing it against his ear. The angel disappears into the en suite bathroom.
"Ma.... Uyazi ukuthi ngiyakuthanda angithi?.... Ha mina? I didn't do anything... Okay, Ma uyabona ke manje, there was a little accident at the warehouse neh? ... Lalela Ma... okay ngiyakuzwa kodwa lalela ma wami... Igotgrazedbyabullet... Ma?... I got grazed by a bullet... Beng'enzani? Eish ... Ma?"
"She hung up on me. Uyambona uMawakho manje? " He sighs. "That's good" I smugly smile. "She also said she was going to make sure the bullet hits me this time" He adds. Naledi walks in before I can answer him.
She changes the plaster on his leg before leaving without saying a thing to me, my attention stays focused on her, watching all her movement. "Do you think I stand a chance?" He snaps me out of my trance. "What?"
"Entle... My nurse" My fists clench. "You're seventeen" I calmly say. "I turn eighteen in a year, plus she doesn't look like she's thirty or something, I'd hit that" The door opens before I can get the chance to strangle him. "That was fast" I turn to her.
"Why didn't you tell me your brother got shot?" She asks, walking towards me. "I just got here" I lie. "Then who brought you here?" She arch's her eyebrow. "Sbonelo" We both say. "Wena"
She walks towards Sabelo, putting pressure on his wound. "Eish, Ma! Uyangilimaza!" He cries out. "Uthe uGrown wena. What did I say about that warehouse? You want me to suffer a heart attack because of your tendencies. Ngizokubulala namhlanje Sabelo" She pokes his wound. "Shit"
"If your father hears about this he'll hang you on the highway" She continues her assault on his injured leg. "I think that's enough, he heard you" I slightly pull her away from him. "Ufuna ukungibulala wena Sabelo, yeses" She storms out of the room.
Sabelo's rolling on his bed, with his hand against his wound. I press the button under his bed and walk after her. "Ma" I call out. She's talking to Naledi. Naledi looks down at her watch then walks away, not before they share a hug?
"Nawe ufuna ukungibulala?" She turns to me. I smile, trying not to laugh. "uright?" Her smile widens before she wraps her arms around me. "Yebo Sthandwa sami, I'm just worried about your little brother"
"He's not little anymore" I add. "I know and it makes me feel old, he needs to stop growing, it's stressing me out" She complains. "You said the same thing about me a few years ago before I left"
"That was different. Sabelo's wild and reckless and he's my baby. He's not like you or Sbonelo" She scoffs. "I need you to pick up your sister from the airport" She suddenly remembers. "Sima?"
"Do you have another sister that I don't know about? Hurry up, she's landing soon." I huff in response. "Okay, your card" I pull out my hand. "For what?" "You know how Sima gets when she sees things she likes"
"Ha-eh, with whose money? who's her brother here? Call your father or make a plan, it's not like ni broke or something, ngiyakuthanda yezwa" She disappears before I can respond. "Ma!"
My feet carry me out of the hospital and that's when I spot her, impatiently waiting outside. I find myself standing infront of her. "Need a ride?" Her eyes snap to mine, annoyed. "Abuti weh, ntlogele tuu" She clicks her tongue.
"I won't try anything, just let me take you home" I itch to grab her hand but decide otherwise. "Samkelo" She groans. "Please" The foreign word escapes my lips. "Fine" She sighs, walking towards my car.
She gets in without me opening the door. I walk to the other side, driving off, dragging time by take longer paths, it's not like she'll notice anyway. Even after the lanes I use, I still find myself parked a few houses away from her father's house.
"Thank you" she collects her stuff, reaching for the door. I don't think I can let her go. I push away all the voices telling me to let her go and grab her neck, placing my lips on hers.
