I find myself kissing him back

I find myself kissing him back. My hand rests on the side of his face as he pulls me up on his lap. I place my other hand on his chest, before pulling away.

He leans his forehead against mine as a small smug graces his face. "I-I should go" I breathlessly whisper. "Mhm?" He placed wet kisses on my jaw. "Samkelo" I whisper shout. This is so wrong.

"I'm sorry for saying all those things to you, I know apologising won't bring back your grandfather but I won't let you go Naledi, I can't" He mutters. I slightly push his face away. "We both know that this is wrong, what wil-"

"Stop thinking about what our families will say. What I feel for you isn't one sided and you know that. I won't be able to do this back and forth game with you. I'm giving you until midnight to decide, if your refuse then I'll stay out of your life"

I frown, looking into his eyes... He's serious. "Can't we just be friends?" I propose, he looks at me with a 'Are you serious' look. "I don't know what I want" I mumble, staring down at my lap.

"You have until midnight to think it through" He pecks my lips twice. "Mhmmhm" I shake my head no. "I mean it, if I don't get an answer, I'll take it as a no" He sucks on my lower lip. I close my eyes, kissing him again.

He pulls away, pecking the top of my head. His hands rest on my thighs. "I'll talk to you later" He gently places me back on my seat. I sigh, grabbing my bag and phone before walking out of the car. I anxiously walk into the house.

Luckily there's no one home... Or so I thought. Ona's busy dancing while loud music bursts out of the built in wall speakers. Hhayi Nwana o. I clear my troath. She quickly turns around, her hand placed on her chest. "Ke eng? o nyaka eng Mosadi?"

"Minnie" She calls out, concerned when I don't respond. "I don't know what to do Ona" She immediately understands. "Just follow your heart. Forget about the family for a while, start thinking about Minentle"

"But he killed Tat'omkhulu" I sigh in response. "Baby girl, Tat'omkhulu wasn't shot, he hung himself, you saw him." She corrects me. "Ha-eh but you said-" She cuts me off. "Forget what I said, follow you heart Mosadi"

I walk up to my room, shutting the door with a loud groan. I don't know what to do anymore. I soak my body before emerging and getting dressed. "oh ntate modimo" I whisper, staring at the huge purple hickey sitting on my jaw.

"Ona!" I shout and she comes in a few minutes later. "And then?" She walks in eating ice cream out of the tub. "How-How do I remove this?" I point at the hickey. "Hebana, mosadi ke wena o?" She laughs. "Ona, help me"

"I'll cover it for you but if anyone else in this house sees it, you're dead" She walks away. I sit on my bed, anxiously tapping my feet. My phone rings and I put it against my ear.

Me:
Hello?

Samkelo:
Have you made your decision?

Me:
You said I have until midnight.

Samkelo:
I changed my mind

Me:
I-Samkelo... I'm sorry, I really am but I can't do this.

Samkelo:
Is that what you want?

Me:
....

Samkelo:
Naledi.

Me:
Y-Yes.

Samkelo:
Then I'll respect your decision.

Me:
I-

Beep! beep! beep!

The line goes dead. I place my phone on the nightstand. I frustratedly rub my temple, feeling a headache forming.  Yoh, hhayi bashimane! I chuckle to myself, slumping back down on the bed.

"Mara waetsi gore o staela?" Ona stands by the door, shaking her head. "Wa thoma" I playfully glare at her. "I'm just saying, motho ola wa go nyaka, le wena wa mo nyaka. Just date and save us all the trouble"

"Hhayi marn Ona, you're a bad influence. You can date your own man in secret, mara nna? Ke sharp. Plus I'm leaving next week" I remind her. "Wa tsamaya? Didn't you say that you're staying until the holidays are over? What changed?" She frowns.

"I just need to get back to therapy since these online meetings aren't helping that much" I partly lie. "O-kay. I have to go back to Limpopo tommorow, I'll see you when I return" I I nod in response.

"I-Ona.... Do you think I'm doing the right thing?" I suddenly ask. "It's not my place to say but you deserve to be happy Minnie. You've sacrificed everything so that you could please these selfish people. Do what YOU want to do" She exits the room.

What do I want to do?

I'm putting me first, that's what I want to do. I grab my purse and car keys before walking down the stairs. "Entle, O ya kae?" I sigh, turning around to face my mother. "I'll be back, I just need space, Papa o kae?"

"Ake tsebe, maybe he's out there trying to find the person that killed your grandfather. You know how he is" She dismisses. If you didn't know her, you would think that she's talking about some stranger and not her husband.

"Okay, please tell him I left" I don't wait for her reply. I walk out and get into my car, contemplating with myself. This is a bad idea... No, No Minentle, you're doing this. You're following your heart and not your brain.

I start the ignition and anxiously drive off. I find myself parked outside his driveway. I wipe my sweaty palms and head out, standing infront of the door.

My hand reaches up to ring the doorbell, a small smile conveys on my lips as I do so. The door is opened by a slightly tall girl. My smile immediately drops as I clutch onto my purse with gritted teeth.

This was a bad idea.
