Everything is perfect, or at least in my opinion it is. Luca is sitting relaxed beside me in a corvette, the setting sun shining on his perfect face. The interior of the corvette is luxurious. It is mainly black, with patches of red. The seats are a smooth leather, as Is the steering wheel. Luca doesn't even notice me staring at him, he just concentrates on the road ahead, the sun giving him a hard job to do so. My cheek rests against the cold leather seat to get a better look at his sharp features.
It has been around twenty hours since we stole this car from the man on the beach. Thankfully, I gave Luca enough time to remove all of our belongings from our previous car and into this one, leaving us with clothes, a tent and a few other belongings Luca has picked up on our road trip; if I can even call it that. Thinking back to it, I wish I had taken our stops in more and appreciated them. One of these places being his playhouse from when he was a kid. Yes, I did take it in, but not enough. I should've let him share all the stories that came flooding back to him as soon as he stepped into the small house with me. I could tell he was so desperate to do so but I didn't care then. I do now.
"Do we have any water?" I ask Luca over the light sound of the radio playing.
"No but I can stop at the next gas station that comes up." Luca smiles at me.
"Thank you."
"Are you alright?" Luca's blue eyes land on me.
"Yeah I'm good.... really good." The corners of my mouth lifted.
"Good, you know... your week is almost up." He reminds me of the deal we had made on the night I tried to escape from him.
"Yeah." I nod. "I know."
"Do you want me to drive you home?"
"We have gotten this far." I chuckle. "I kinda wanna see where this goes."
His cheeks tint red and he bites his bottom lip. "Good."
"Yeah... I really like spending time with you." I grab his hand and hold it tightly.
"I love you." Luca admits once again.
.
Once we finally reached a gas station, the sky was a navy blue and the air was crisp. I am not sure where we are now, I lost track a few towns ago when the welcome signs started getting more and more faded, eventually not even the 'welcome' being readable.
Now, we stand in the smallest gas station in the whole United states. I follow luca around, resembling a lost puppy as he picks out different snacks and drinks for dinner. I am not sure how he seems to have unlimited cash but I don't question it afraid It will be said offensively.
"Anything else you would like?" Luca questions from in front of me but doesn't bother looking back as he does.
"No, that's all." I mumble.
"You sure?"
"Yeah." I smile when he turns his head around to look at me.
Luca walks a couple of steps and reaches the counter at the front of the store.
The cashier doesn't look up from the counter when we walk over. Luca places the unpaid for items on the counter. The cashier doesn't look at us. He scans the items robotically and then mutters a price.
"$45."
The words are almost inaudible but Luca pulls out some cash and places it on the counter, the grabs the items and walks towards the door. Before leaving he looks back to see if I am following, once he has confirmation, he walks out of the door.
"He was scary." I half joke with a laugh.
"Yeah....I have no idea what his problem was." Luca smiles at me.
"Hopefully he didn't recognise us."
"I don't think so. I think he just was a weirdo. Come on." Luca holds the door open for me to climb into the car. Once I do, he hands me the gas station items.
"Do you not need gas?" I frown at him once he gets in on the drivers side.
"No, I stopped a while back when you were sleeping." He explains to me.
Around four hours ago, I woke up from a nap and I am still trying not to fall asleep right now. I don't know how Luca is still awake after the little sleep he has had the past two days. It is almost as though he is afraid of falling into a deep sleep around me, like he needs to protect me at all times. I don't really blame him for that. As a matter of fact, I blame myself. I can still hear the fear that was in his screams when I ran away. At the time, I was afraid he would find me. Now... I am afraid he thinks I will do it again, I wont. I just want him to know that because I want to be here now.
"Luca?"
"Hm? What's up baby."
"Minus the time at your grandparents, what is your best childhood memory."
His expression tenses up at the question, his eyes stay on the road ahead as he thinks.
"I guess... I got a comic off of a friend I had one Christmas. That was a good Christmas."
"Did you not ever get any presents off of your family."
Luca shakes his head. "Sometimes, sure. More when I was younger. Though, I found my own entertainment, and if I really wanted something in a store, I just stole it."
"Did your siblings get stuff?"
"Yeah but they're too dumb to make their own entertainment." Luca let out a menacing laugh which made me wince.
"Right." I nod slowly. "Was the comic one of the comics in the house you took me to?"
"Oh, no. It got... ruined."
"Ruined?"
"Yeah but the details are not important. What is your favourite memory from your past besides Disneyland?"
"I won an ice skating competition when I was nine. The first one my dad could ever come too, he was always too busy with work but he surprised me and I was so excited I completely let all my fear go and I won, first place."
"Of course you won, you're amazing." Luca puts his hand on my leg and pulls off of the main road, turning into a smaller and slimmer road.
"Where are we?"
"I don't really know, I am hoping there is somewhere to stop for the night."
Our only source of light is the headlight on the car. Trees above and all around us block any light the stars may hold.
It isn't long before Luca stops the car at the start of a field.
"Luca?"
"Yeah, Emily?"
"Can we stay in the car tonight?" It is freezing cold out there." My body turns to face him.
"Yeah, of course. We can stay in here." Luca nods at me and steps out of the ar. He opens up the trunk and takes out four blankets and two sweaters.
I get out of the car too when he shuts the trunk of the car and opens the back door. "Get in." He commands sweetly.
I climb into the car all the way along and Luca follows me, going through the same door as I did.
"Here lay this down on the seat." Luca hands me the edge of a blanket to place of the seat and he does the other side. I slip off my shoes and jacket and throw them onto the passenger seat then take one of the sweaters Luca had previously places between the two of us. He follows my exact actions and throws a sweater on after putting his shoes and jacket onto the drivers seat.
We both lay down, wrapped in each others arms. We share body heat and our breathing syncs up to match one another.
