The water moves around our bodies. Emily looks like a mermaid with the orange sun set coating her skin, making it appear gold. I cant help but obsess over her. Everything about her I love. Her hands move around her side, keeping herself afloat. Thankfully, the water is still reasonably warm. I hate the ocean. Everything about it scares me. The fact you can not see what is underneath is at the top of the list of reasons why going into the ocean is a bad idea.
Right now, I am trying not to panic every time a wave hits me in the face or the realisation sets In that I am not touching the ground. Emelia on the other hand, is as calm as the ocean itself; and as beautiful. She watches as her hands glide through the water and I watch her watch herself. I haven't watched tv in so long but I don't need it. Staring at her for hours is better than anything they show on tv; including MTV.
Emily's hands lift up to the string on the bikini top, pulling at it. The top falls down and floats on the water until she grabs it and throws it at me. Even though we are quite far from shore, I think if someone was sitting on the sand, they would hear Emily giggling.
I can't see her chest due to the water stopping by the neck.
"Don't lose that." She warns.
"How long do we have to be in here?"
"Stop rushing it! Enjoy the moment." Emily's head falls back onto the water and her body comes up to float. Her chest is bare as she floats in front of me and her bikini bottoms aren't doing much covering either.
"Fine." I mutter.
I don't have a whole lot to complain about considering I have the most gorgeous girl in the world in front of me right now. The dye seeps from her hair and into the ocean, creating a brown line around her.
"I love the ocean." Emily admits and for a moment, I think she is going to say 'you' instead of the ocean. I know she doesn't love me, and I don't mind too much. Of course, I'd do anything to make her love me but i don't know if it's possible. I took her from her life and forced her to be with me.
"I don't." I sigh. "But i do love being here with you."
Her eyes open and she goes back into a standing position. I move closer to her and grab her by the waist. Her legs straddle me and her arms wrap around my neck.
"Yeah, its fun." Emily smiles warmly at me.
"We should probably get out before the bookstore closes."
"The bookstore can wait." She trails kisses down my face.
"Maybe, but can sharks wait for dinner?"
Her mouth forms into a smile against my cheek but as she pulls back, her face forms into a more serious look. "Sharks done eat humans, babe."
Babe. Did she just call me that?
I stare at her in shock. This girl probably thinks you're an idiot the way you stare at her, I tell myself.
"I watched jaws."
"Well that's a movie. But real sharks don't eat humans unless they are fighting for survival. And even then, some sharks don't attack." Emily explains to me.
"Well, other sea creatures are scary too. And the ocean itself."
"How is it?" She frowns.
"You never know what is hiding beneath. There could be a shark who is willing to make an exception on his diet choices."
She sighs and dunks her head under the water, her legs lifting up into the air and under the water. Her whole body disappears as she swims. I try not to panic when she doesn't come up after three seconds. That is until I feel her small hands grip my legs.
My brows crease as I study the water, trying to see underneath. A few seconds later, her head pops up from the water, breath steady as though she wasn't just holding it. Emily locks eyes with me and smiles, taking back her bikini top.
"No sharks."
....
It takes us ten minutes to swim back to shore and as soon as we do, the cold air hits us like a brick. Our bodies had adjusted to the water before the sun has set and now the sun has set, their is a heavy breeze, cooling the dripping water on our bodies.
Emily and I walk across the white sand and over to the parking lot. In one hand, I hold my clothes that sat on the sand waiting for me and with the other, I hold Emily's hand. From the car, we see that the book store is closed for the night. Emily turns to look at me and smiles.
"Can we go in the morning?" She asks.
"Of course. Do you want to sleep in the tent or car?" I start to get dressed in warm clothes as I wait for her reply.
"Tent. On the beach."
After Emily and i got dressed into clean clothes, we headed down to the sand again, this time with arms full of blankets and a tent; plus all of its contents.
Since I have been setting this tent up for a little while now, it doesn't take me long to do at all and before I know it, Emily and I are cuddling each other, wrapped in warm blankets.
"Good night." I kiss her forehead gently and place my chin on her head.
