Emelia's point of view
The faint beep of a heart monitor pulls me from a sleeping state. My eyes fall open and closed, slowly, trying to adjust to waking up. After around the tenth blink, my eyebrows push together in confusion and my eyes concentrate on the bright light above me.
My mouth is dry and uncomfortable and my body feels so stiff as though it's been months since I last moved. The faint smell of antiseptic surrounds me, making me feel more uncomfortable and aware of my surroundings; my body.
The stiff sheets crumple underneath me when I move, trying to prop myself up but failing.
I lift my hand to the intense pain in my head. As i do, I realise my hand feels heavier than usual. Confused, I look down at the back of my hand, noticing a cannula piercing the skin and allowing liquid to go into my system.
I begin to panic, overwhelmed with confusion on how I got here and what's happening. Different machines beep and hum beside me as they work on making me feel better.
Once again, I try sit up, this time getting a little further than before; though not making much of a difference at all.
"Oh good, you're awake."
A woman in green scrubs and a bright smile enters the room through the door to my right.
"How are you feeling?" The nurse questions in a soothing tone. It makes me realise how much I've missed the comfort of a woman; a mother.
I don't reply, my mouth feels too dry to. Though I know I can speak, I choose not to. The nurse busies herself by placing a small grey object onto my finger.
"This is just a pulse ox, relax your hand for me, darling." She places my hand back down on the bed and looks at a screen the device is attached to.
"Can you tell me what day it is?" She questions but I don't know the day. My head is foggy and I can't tell if it's day or night. I don't know how long I've been here for or what day it was before I came here.
I shake my head in reply, , regretting it instantly as I do due to the pounding.
"Okay. Can you tell me what colour your eyes are?"
"Blue." My voice breaks.
"And what country are we in?"
"America."
"Good, good." Hannah nods and takes the pulse ox off of my finger.
"Your name is Emelia, right?"
I nod my head.
"You were kidnapped?" She questions again. My eyes fall to a small badge with her name on it. Hannah, it reads.
I nod again.
"Awh you poor thing." Hannah switches on a small torch, shining it in my eyes. I squint away as a reflex.
"Look into the light, please." She shines the torch from one eye to the other. "It must be awful what you went through. You're safe now, darling. I know the cops are wanting to speak to you so I'll finish up here and send them in okay? And I'll also have someone bring you some food. Soup or sandwich?"
"Sandwich. And water, please." I reply, quietly.
"Of course." Hannah finishes up and leaves the room. Shortly after, two cops enter.
"Good morning, Emelia." The male cop speaks. "How are you feeling?"
"Fine."
"Good, good. My name is Carter. We have contacted your parents and they're on their way by flight, they should be here soon. But until then, we would just like to ask you a few questions if that's okay?" Carter explains politely.
My parents.
I've missed them so much ever since I left. All I want is to see them again. I don't care if they're mad at me or if it's different now, I want to see them so badly.
"Yes." I respond.
"Good, that's good. When we found you, you were unconscious outside of a gas station. Why were you there?" The cop asks as the other one stays quiet, getting ready to take notes.
"I was running."
"Okay." He nods in understanding, letting me know he's listening. "Running from who?"
"Luca."
"Is that who kidnapped you?" Carter asks.
"Yes. He- he kidnapped me. He wouldn't let me go. And then, I thought I loved him so I stayed." I cut myself off with a sob. "He hurt so many people. He hurt me."
The other cop hands me a tissue and I wipe my eyes with it, a little embarrassed about my break down. My eyes fall shut as I breathe in deeply, opening as I let it back out.
"How did he kidnap you to begin with?"
"I woke up in his car." I say quietly and frown, trying to remember before that. It seems like a dream, A time where I wasn't with Luca. "He must have taken me from my house. I took sleeping tablets that night to help me with nightmares. I guess I slept through him carrying me."
"How did he know you?" Carter asks.
"I don't know. He was stalking me."
"Okay. Do you know where he is now?" Carter's question makes me look up at him rather than the hospital bracelet on my wrist.
"You don't? No, no he is on the road somewhere. He was chasing me and then stopped. I think he passed out. I know Luca, he wouldn't have just stopped chasing me. You have to find him!"
"Okay, okay. We will. But we checked the whole area and he wasn't there. My guess would be that he heard the sirens and ran."
Tears fall down my cheeks and onto the bed.
"He's going to come for Me."
