My easiest way out. It is handed right to me on a silver platter and Luca has no acknowledgment of it at all. He doesn't even know I got the note. I can go home, see my family and go back to my normal life; one where I didn't have someone obsessed with me and holding me hostage.
I think of all the things I can do as soon as I get home for a few seconds which only adds to the confusion I have from the next words that leave my mouth.
"The cops are coming." I warn Luca and he doesn't even bother putting his seat belt on before leaving the parking lot.
As soon as I told him, I felt a sense of relief which made me realise if I hadn't told him I would have instantly regretted it.
But why? I want to go home more than anything. So why can't I let myself do it?
"How do you know?" He only questioned this once a mile from the fast food place.
I hold up the note to Luca. He looks between the road and the note three times before reading it all.
He clenches his jaw tight.
"Are you mad at me? You look mad." I scan his features.
"No, no I am not mad. I am proud of you for telling me, Emily. I know it probably took a lot in you to not just run to the cops. Not tell me they are showing up at all. We have a deal and you respected that. So, thank you." He speaks in a genuine tone.
"It wasn't a hard decision, Luca. Yeah... I thought of what it would be like to go home and see my family but I didn't actually contemplate it. Believe it or not, I enjoy our time together."
My words feel as though they aren't mine. They are foreign, a different language. I can't understand why I am saying them or if I even believe it.
An unreadable expression coats his face as the words leave my mouth making me wonder what is happening inside his mind.
"We need to get a different car. And change our appearances." He switches topic, ignoring what I said.
"Oh okay, where do you plan on getting a car?"
"You will see." He smirks with a hint of creepiness to it.
.
Every one of our surrounding looks deserted. Luca drives us to a small town with nothing around but the odd person or store. It looks as though we went back in time to the 50s. Everything looks run down and abandoned; almost... haunting.
He pulls into a parking lost big enough to fit five cars. It is a small gas station joint to a convenience store.
Luca gets out and so do I, his next words surprise me enough to send me in complete shock.
"You go into the convenience store and I will go into the gas station. Understood?"
I just frown at him. I must have misheard him, right? There is no way he would be telling me to go into a store alone.
"Emily?" He raises an eyebrow at me, waiting for some type of response.
"Yeah?" I mumble I shock.
"Convenience store."
"Uh... okay, yeah. What would you like me to get?"
"Scissors, hair bleach and dye, a small makeup brush and those temporary tattoos from the 20 Cents machines. Oh and self tanner. I will come in and pay for them once i'm done getting Gas."
I stroll into the convenience store before forgetting his list of supplies. The first thing I grab is a hair bleach and a brown hair dye right beside it. The self tanner is on the shelf opposite the dyes. I grab some and head over to the makeup isle where I pick up an eyeshadow brush and try remember what was next on the list.
