Four days pass of the same routine. Walking up in the wooden house, bathing, eating breakfast, helping Chris and his daughter tidy their home then sit around relaxing until lunch. Relax again until dinner then take a bath once again. The first soak in the bath I take alone, the second Luca
joins me every time. Chris' home is welcoming and cosy, a little cold but it beats sleeping against a tree. Despite the comfort, I find myself wanting to leave. Not for any reason other than not wanting to overstay my welcome. Chris and Ella have been so welcoming towards us and I'm so grateful for that. I have to keep reminding Luca that they are doing this for free and he can try keep his anger at a low.

Luca always seems to get angry at other people, I have realised. It isn't often he gets angry at me. I assume this is because of his dad. I have only been given a small look into his childhood and most of it was his very much needed stay at his grandparents house.

More often than I like to admit, I wonder if I'm making a mistake with him, with all this. But then I remember the things he's told me and I realise he needs me. I couldn't leave him...

Over our small stay at Chris and Ella's home, I have read five books taken from their bookshelf. I am now sitting on their burnt red and orange sofa with my feet over Luca. Taking my eyes away from the words on the book I look around, Luca is sitting beside me, his hand on my knee and his eyes on the house owner. Ella sits on the sofa next to Luca. She colours peacefully in a mermaid colouring book. A few metres away is Chris sitting on a matching chair, looking back at my boyfriend as they talk.

....

When dinner time rolls around we all gather at the table located in the kitchen. Chris places a plate infront of all of us which holds chicken, peas, mash and gravy. Chris and Ella didn't pray before eating and they didn't brother keeping their elbows off of the table top or placing napkins in their lap. But they did talk during dinner and that was worth more than manners in your own home, in my opinion.

"It looks like the rain will be gone by tomorrow." I turn my head to Luca as I speak.

"Does that mean you will be leaving?" Ella looks at me with her doll eyes.

"Uhm yeah I think So." I smile back at her. "Right, Luca?"

"Right. We will leave tomorrow and head back to my parents' house." He smiles brightly at us all.

"So, Emily? Are you still in school?" Chris brings his fork to his mouth and chews down on the meat it pierced.

"Uh yeah I am. I'm in my last year." I answer.

"Oh nice, nice. Is that how you two met?"

"Uhm no, our parents work together." Luca flashes his innocent smile as he replies for me.

"Are you guys married?" Ella questions before we can continue the conversation.

"No." I blush. "But maybe one day we will be."

Luca stares at me. "Definitely." He corrects.

"Emily, could you make me a milkshake please?" Ella looks up at me from the seat opposite me.

I chuckle at the little girls requests.

"Darling, I'll get you one, she's a guest." Chris explains to his daughter.

"But she's a girl. And girls are better at making milkshakes." Ella protests.

"Are they now? Well I think I make an amazing milkshake."
