“Um, where do you guys put the cups?” Mikasa asked quietly.
“It's in that cupboard,” Levi pointed, voice a bit strained. “Also, can you please reach the bowl on the top?”
“Sure,” Mikasa nodded and reached for the said bowl after she took three cups from the cupboard and placed them on the table.
Eren stared at them, brows furrowing with confusion. He was out near the barn when Levi called him for breakfast but he didn't expect to see his mate and his sister working together to set up the table. He also noticed that both had a gloomy aura around them, similar to a dark rain cloud above their heads.
“Eren, darling. Take a seat,” Levi smiled at him when the raven finally noticed his presence.
Even with that smile from his Omega, he knew something was not right, the smile is leaning towards a sad than a happy one. Plus, Levi's voice was a bit strained, it was like the raven Omega had been crying. He shot a glare at his sister before turning to his mate with worry.
“Levi, please tell me if anything that happens in this house, okay?” Eren pleaded. “I don't want you hurt in any way.”
Levi nodded and side eyed Mikasa's deep frown. He had to sort out his problems later, first, he needed to tend to his Alpha. “Of course, alright, let's eat.”
Breakfast was silent but Eren was attentive to Levi, noticing that his raven Omega was down.
“Levi, would you like to visit the lake later this afternoon? The sun's out and I think the ground will be dry then,” Eren suggested, his hand moving under the table and caressing Levi's knee.
“Sure, it's not that far right?” Levi smiled at his Alpha, loving the Eren's hand on his knee. The simple contact was comforting and it eased his worrying.
“Not much, it's just down at Jean's farm and...” Eren paused and glanced at his sister. “Um, Mikasa.... Ah, if you want to join us then...”
Mikasa lifted her chin when the brunette Alpha addressed her. Her dark eyes shine at the invitation.
“The lake... if you remember, we used to play there all the time when we were kids,” Eren chuckled.
“Yes, we do... It's our favorite place...”
Levi could already see how much Mikasa tried her best not a shed a tear.
“It is and I want to share it with Levi. So, yeah, we could have a little picnic or something." Eren turned back again to his mate, smile full and bright.
The raven Omega didn't miss Mikasa's longing look. If Eren and Mikasa were that close before it must have been difficult for the raven Alpha after what had happened during the war. And right now, Levi could tell that Eren's genuine bright smile was exclusively for him when they were talking.
Levi felt sorry for Mikasa but then again, he still had to sort out his whole situation with Eren. Maybe during the picnic, he could tell Eren the truth and beg for forgiveness.
“I want to....” Mikasa spoke, her voice was firm yet it had a tinge of joy in it. “But after breakfast, I must go. I really appreciate the invitation, Eren. I really do...”
“You're leaving?” Levi stared at her.
“I only got two days off. My travel time eats most of it....” Mikasa sighed sadly.
Eren was silent for a good minute, he continued eating his food but after some time, he offered. “You better bring some food with you. I'll... make you some sandwiches.”
Levi smiled at his husband who was so focused on his food and avoiding his gaze. Looking up at Mikasa, the Omega felt his chest warmth at the first sight of her smile.
