Chapter 31: So...my long lost cousin looks like a nerd and sounds like a surfer?
*Maddy's POV*
I had made it home safely. I waved to the boy's limo driver who had given me a ride home. I opened my front door, and walked in quietly. The whole house was dark. I crept to the kitchen, hoping mum wasn't home. I never really ever had good luck...
Mum was pacing around the kitchen, which was lit dimly. She must have heard me come in because she spun to look at me. He face became furious.
"Where the BLOODY HELL have you been?!" She screamed. I only stood there with my mouth hanging open.
"I haven't seen or heard from you in TWO DAYS! And you have the ABSOLUTE NERVE to come back acting all normal! You could have DIED!" Several veins popped out of her neck as she glared at me. I watched her face return to its normal color, and she unclenched her tiny fists. Suddenly she jumped on me. And she squeezed me tightly in what might be considered a hug. She released me and looks at my face with tears streaming down her face.
"Are you okay?" She asked. I nodded dumbly because I couldn't talk. Is my mum acting...motherly?
"I thought something happened. I was going to call the police. NEVER do that to me again." She said sharply.
"Who are you, and what have you done with my mum?" I asked. She glared at me, and cracked a smile. No way...she smiled at my joke...
"I'm sorry. I lost touch with you when dad died. I only focused on work. But thinking that I lost you...that I was alone...it opened my eyes. I love you. So much. And I am so grateful to have you." She said. My eyes bulged and nearly fell out of my head. What the fuck...
"I'm not joking. I will always support you. I promise." She smiled warmly at me. Before I could say anything, I started sobbing.
For most of my life, I had hated my mum. Not hate exactly...maybe a strong dislike. I had felt unsupported. It had been like she only used me for her job. Everything was about that stupid magazine. And I was her stupid employee. But not anymore. It's not like she has filled a hole in my heart. But more like she has doubled my heart's size. Because honestly, I didn't know what it was like to have a mother. Every since I was two, she has been like that. And now I have a real mum-a number one fan, a manicure and pedicure buddy, a best friend, an unlimited bank, a therapist, an embarrassing teacher, an overprotective role model, someone to cry with me when my world falls apart and smile when it falls together, someone to love me unconditionally. And I couldn't be happier. My tears fall slowly but soon run down my face in constant streaks, soaking Mom's shirt.
"Tell me what's wrong." She comforts.
So I tell her.
I tell her everything. About how I fell in love with Harry. And about our fight. About how we made up. And now he's in another country. We talk all day.
The amazing thing is, mum listens. And then she talks about when she fell in love with dad. We cry together, and I am so exhausted that I fall asleep in her arms.
When I wake up, she is hugging me tightly, and is fast asleep. It is morning so I get up from the couch we had been laying on, and pour myself some cereal. Mum walks in when I'm almost done eating and gives me some surprising news.
"Colin is coming over and staying for a few days." She said. I felt my face turn into shock. Colin.
Colin was my cousin-my Mum's sister's son. He was 26 and was studying in America at some fancy college. He wanted to become some fancy philosophical English genius. I haven't seen him in years.
"When?" I asked excitedly.
"He should be here in about an hour. I invited him over for 6 days." Mum informed me. A grin slipped onto my face. That will keep me occupied for a week! Colin is by far my favorite cousin. Well, he's my only cousin, but...that doesn't matter... I quickly cleaned the house, and made myself presentable.
Before I had time to digest everything, a cab pulled up in the driveway. I squealed and ran outside. I saw my tan, tall, fake glasses wearing cousin, and ran to hug him. I crashed into his chest and pushed him backwards a few feet. He chuckled and hugged me back.
"Well, if it isn't my pesky little cousin who I haven't seen in too long." He said. I gasped. He sounded so different.
"Why yes it is. And this must be my obnoxious, nerdy looking English major cousin who suddenly has an American accent." I responded with a smile.
"Ha ha." He rolls his eyes. I took a step back and admired him.
"You look...different. In a good way." I winked and patted his back in encouragement. His laugh brought a huge smile to my face.
"And so do you...in a bad way. Kidding. It's good, really. You're lucky you don't have boys chasing after you," He squinted at me, "You don't have boys chasing after you, right?"
"I hope not. I have a boyfriend." I said, smirking. His face became horrified.
"I need to meet him." He said sternly.
"He's in America right now. Uhm..he's kind of a world famous pop star in a world famous boy band..." I scratched the back of my neck.
"...Whut..." Colin looked amazed.
"Yup." I grinned and pecked him on each cheek about 10 times.
"What was that for?" He asked.
"For all the times I haven't been there, but you deserved a peck on the cheek." I explained.
"Only 20 times?"
"Mhmm." I laughed and grab his hand. I pulled him inside, with his suitcase trailing behind us.
I honestly couldn't get much happier. If only Harry was here...
