Chapter 16: I'm not crying...my eyes are sweating

*Harry's POV*

Maddy's mum is furious. That is an understatement. Her face is beet red, and her fists are clenched. Tight. It's a sight that makes you want to run away. I mean far, far away. I don't even know why she is mad, and I still don't understand what happened earlier today.

And then Carrie sees me. Her face turns into an evil clown grin.

"Harry! Oh, you cheeky boy! How are you??" She asks while pinching my cheeks. Ow.

"I'm good, Mrs. Gwenn." I fake smile.

"I told you, call me Carrie!" She slaps my arm. Ow again.

"Mum. Did you want something?" Maddy interrupts. Carrie's face becomes livid for a second. She composes herself, and laughs. She laughs like a crazy hyena. Maddy and I both jump backwards.

"Yes. I wanted dinner. So I ordered a pizza. That's all nothing else, I swear." Carrie says.

Maddy nods and pulls me out of the kitchen. We run up the stairs and into her room. She slams the door behind us. Then she breaks into tears.

I just hold her. She falls to the ground, but I quickly catch her, and pull her onto the bed. I climb in next to her, and lean her against my chest. Her sniffles eventually disappear, and we just lay there.

I have never been more confused in my life.

My stomach begs for food, but I ignore it. Maddy comes before hunger. She seems so much different from the confident girl I first met. I look at her clock and see that it is 8 PM. We've been there for about three hours. Maddy sighs and sits up. We don't speak, but I move out of bed with her. She strips off her shirt and shorts so she is only in her bra and underwear. I don't make a sexy comment, like I usually would, but I don't ignore her body completely. She puts on a tee shirt and climbs back into bed, hugging her sides. I take off my own shirt and jeans so I'm in only my boxers. I climb in next to her.

We hold each other until my thoughts turn into dreams.

It is the night I met Maddy. I am walking her home, and I see her house for the first time. When I ask her what her mum's job is, Maddy hesitates. It doesn't go unnoticed. It's only deemed as unimportant. She says her mum works with media, and magazines.

Then, days later, I am calling her about the article. I am startled by her calm reaction. I thought she would be upset. I was hoping I could comfort her.

The limo ride from today replays in my head as well.

Finally, I see Maddy. She is just standing there, staring at me. But her eyes are different. It's barely noticeable, but I can see it. Her eyes are evil. They are merciless and arrogant. Like her mother. They are her mum's eyes. Maddy lifts a camera up to her horrible eyes, and snaps a picture. A flash illuminates my dream, and I fall into a restless sleep instead.

When I wake up, I forget the dream. I know it was important, but all I remember was a bright flash. Then...nothing. Maddy is still wrapped in my arms. I watch her sleep. She looks so innocent. I'm so transfixed in her, I become startled when she opens her eyes.

"Morning." I say brightly.

"Morning." She grumbles.

"How are you?" I cautiously ask.

"Harry, I have some explaining to do. I'm so sorry." She looks like she may cry again.

"Shhh!" I hush her, and hug her tighter.

"No, this is serious." She protests.

"I don't care. I don't want to know." I'm not sure if that's entirely true, but I don't want her to cry.

"Yes you do."

"Okay. Then tell me."

She took a deep breath.

"I don't know where to start.." She said.

"How about explaining why your mum was upset. I thought you said she was glad you were having fun."

"She didn't get what she wanted. And after she worked so hard, she was mad that her plan didn't work."

I felt the confusion come back along with a rush of anger.

"Could you be any more cryptic?" I nearly yelled. Maddy's whole face fell. I felt guilty for raising my voice.

"I'm sorry Harry, but this isn't easy!" Her voice broke, and tears swam in her eyes.

"No. Don't cry, please. I'm sorry I yelled. I'm just so confused." I pressed my lips to hers.

"It's all my fault." I heard her whisper.

I took her face in my hands. "NEVER say that." I commanded.

"Well, I guess it's your fault too. You're so amazing that you made me love you in less than a week." She laughed shakily.

I froze. Her words replayed in my head. Love. My vision blurred from tears.

"What did you say?" I asked.

"I think I love you, Harry."

I felt the tears spill over my cheeks, and I struggled to clearly see Maddy.

"Why are you crying?" She swiped away my tears.

I cleared my throat, and wiped my eyes.

"Because I think I love you too." I honestly told her.

She smiled so wide, she looked like an angel. The kiss we shared then was the best kiss I've ever had.

Until my phone beeped with a new message. I groaned and looked at my phone, which I had set on the bedside table.

Meeting w/ management @ 11 & small signing @ 4. Be there!!!

"I've got to get going." I said. It was 10:39.

"Okay." Maddy spoke quietly.

I dialed the number for my driver, who picked up after one ring. I told him where to come get me, and he was on his way.

"Bye Maddy."

She nodded and hugged me.

"I am going to take you out on a proper date next Saturday. I've got some gigs and signings this week, so I won't be able to see you, but I'll text you every day. I promise."

"Okay." She looked excited.

"Wear a dress." I told her.

"Yessir." She giggled, and kissed my cheek.

I waved goodbye, and walked out of her room. I tip toed downstairs, and got to the front door without coming across Maddy's mum. Thank god. I opened the door, and sprinted out. The driver was already there, so I hopped in the limo, and saw the other boys waiting. I pretended not to notice them rolling their eyes as I told them all about Maddy.
