Chapter 8: Snapped

Scott awoke early the next morning and was relieved to see Mitch was still next to him. He didn't know why but for some reason he was thinking Mitch was going to leave him alone because he was still mad. He smiled slightly at the sight of the brunette curled up in the blankets and he leaned down placing a soft kiss on Mitch's cheek. He got up and walked out of the room down the hallway to check on Joey. As he approached he saw that Joey's light was already on and he heard him shuffling around the room. He knocked quietly and a moment later Joey opened the door. "Good morning Scott." Joey said cheerfully.

"Uh morning. What are you doing up so early?" Scott asked; his voice raspy and tired.

"Couldn't sleep. I've been up for hours." He shrugged and walked over to the bed. Scott followed him into the room and looked around.

"Ok well, could you make sure Mitch is up by nine? He has class at ten thirty and it takes him forever to get ready." He chuckled a little and Joey smiled.

"Of course I will. You going to work then?" Joey asked and Scott nodded. He really didn't want to but he needed a distraction from what was going on.

"I'll be back by five...ish. Just keep an eye on him." Joey raised an eyebrow at Scott in confusion but then nodded. "Thanks. See ya later." Scott replied and walked out of the room. He didn't even bother to take a shower, only changed and walked out the door trying to get away before Mitch woke up and wanted to talk about what happened the night before. He wanted to talk to Mitch about it he really did, he just didn't know how. He didn't want Mitch to worry about him but not telling him was making him worry about him anyway so...either way Mitch was hurting and Scott hated himself for it. He pushed it from his mind and concentrated on the road so he wouldn't run a stop sign like he almost did the other day.

Joey crept downstairs and into the kitchen to make coffee. He wanted to cheer Mitch up and he knew coffee was the way to do it. As he was preparing to make it he thought back to what Scott had said about keeping an eye on Mitch. Why would he say that? Was something else going on, something like before when they had first met? That was a scary thing to think about. He remembered that night at the motel when he was almost killed and Scott saved his life. Visions of pulling the trigger of Scott's gun and watching the bullet hit one of the men flashed through his mind and he shook his head. That was one of the scariest nights of his life and he would never forget that. He took in the scent of the coffee and a minute later he heard movement from upstairs. He smiled to himself as he heard Mitch walk slowly down the stairs. "Hey there sleepy head." He said and turned to see Mitch standing in the entryway of the kitchen.

"Hey..." Mitch sighed and ran his fingers through his tangled hair.

"Coffee's ready, I was supposed to make sure you were up by nine for school, though I knew the coffee would get you up right away." He smiled proudly as Mitch rolled his eyes. He poured some coffee into a mug and handed it to the sleepy boy, then poured himself some. "Mitch?" He asked after a long pause.

"Yes?" Mitch replied not looking up.

"Scott told me to keep an eye on you...is there something going on I should know about?" He asked eyeing Mitch with concern. Mitch glanced up and then looked away quickly avoiding eye contact with him.

"It's nothing. Just some people Scott used to work with that are bothering him." Mitch explained. Joey thought a moment and then decided to just drop the subject. Mitch was obviously still a little mad about whatever had happened last night and he didn't want to ruin the day by bringing it up again.
