Chapter 19: To The Hero Joey
Scott didn't know how long he sat there holding Joey's limp body and sobbing, but when he finally quieted down he heard footsteps coming towards the room he was in. He didn't care who it was, though he was pretty sure it was Luthor because it was either him or Roy and well...Roy was dead. He stayed where he was staring at the wall and clutching Joey close to himself. "Holy shit..." He heard Luthor's voice as he entered the room. Scott sniffled and slowly turned towards the man who was staring at all the blood. Scott narrowed his eyebrows angrily at him and Luthor put up in hands. "Slade....I didn't know Brett was going to kill him I swear! He said he was just going to use them to make you cooperate..." He pleaded. Scott was expecting Luthor to try and kill him but it looked like that wasn't going to happen. Scott stood up, picking Joey up with him and turned to face Luthor.
"I don't want to see your face EVER again do you understand me?! I didn't kill you before, but next time I'll rip you apart like I did Roy!" Scott growled and Luthor backed away.
"I got it. But Slade...."
"DO YOU WANNA DIE?!" Scott yelled cutting him off and making the man flinch.
"N-no...." He cleared his throat to continue. "But I was just going to say that Brett has another warehouse on the other side of the city. That's probably where he is." He stated and turned on his heels leaving Scott there alone. Scott sighed and began his walk back to his car, Joey still in his arms and tears spilling from his eyes once again. He couldn't look at Joey, he couldn't look at yet another innocent person that was killed because of him. Joey didn't deserve this, he saved both he and Mitch's lives and this only clarified more to Scott that he didn't have a right to live after this. Why should he be alive when Joey wasn't? He was halfway back to his car when all of a sudden he heard a quiet moan and felt movement in his arms. He looked down to see Joey's eyes slowly open a little.
"S-Scott?" He whispered and Scott was too shocked to speak. "I-it...it h-hurts..." He whined and Scott gently lowered him to the ground.
"It's o-ok Joey....it'll be ok..." He answered through the tears and placed his hand over the wound making Joey cry out. He took off his jacket and then his shirt revealing a black tank top underneath. He pressed his shirt to the hole and took a hold of Joey's hands, moving them to the shirt. "I need you to keep pressure on this ok?" He asked softly; his voice shaky.
"Am I g-going to d-die?" Joey choked out and Scott shook his head wiping a tear from Joey's cheek.
"No. You're going to be ok just hang on, you have to hang on for me ok?" Scott said as he picked him back up. He listened to the sound of Joey's heavy breathing as he picked up his pace back to his car. Once he got Joey situated and the car was started he peeled out and drove as fast as his car would let him go. He was going to kill Brett for this.

Gunshots. Have you ever heard the sound? Popping around you like fireworks only you can't see where they're coming from and you're terrified that if you move you'll be hit? No? Well that is what Scott was experiencing right now and he wished he wasn't. Sure it was part of the job but that didn't mean he enjoyed it. "Go I'll cover you!" Scott tuned out the popping sounds to concentrate on Avi who was yelling at him. His voice seemed so quiet and distant and Scott almost couldn't understand him. "Scott go!" Avi yelled again. Scott looked down at the gun in his hands as if it was some foreign object; something he'd never touched before. "Scott!"
"NO!" He was finally able to speak. "I won't leave you again, we go together!" He stated firmly. Avi stared at him for a moment before finally nodding.
