Chapter 32: It's Never Over

"Scott? Babe can you hear me?" Scott nodded slightly as he felt hands on him helping him into a sitting position.

"Shit, you look like you just did ten rounds with the hulk." Joey pointed out. Scott didn't need to be told how bad he looked, he could barely move and he was pretty sure something was broken.

"Yeah well with whatever drug he was on, it felt like I was fighting the hulk." He mumbled through his swollen lips.

"Come on, we should probably go." Mitch said and he and Joey helped Scott up, as he grunted in pain. Once he was sure Mitch had Scott steady, Joey walked back over to Connor and again slung his arm around his shoulder.

"Whos that?" Scott asked nodding over to the two boys. Mitch smiled.

"That's Connor. He came with Kevin and he....oh my god KEVIN!" Mitch was so worried about Scott that he'd forgotten about Kevin. He let go of Scott who barely held his balance and rushed over to Kevin's side thinking it was too late, but once he reached him he saw that Kevin's eyes were open. "Kevin? Are you ok?" He asked and examined his body to find exactly where the wound was.

"Oh yeah, totally fine just bleeding to death." Kevin joked and Mitch rolled his eyes. The bullet had hit him on the right side of his chest, and if it had gone any further to the right it would have been in his shoulder.

"Yeah I think you're fine." Mitch replied and stood up, offering his hand. Kevin smiled and took it allowing Mitch to help him up.

"What the hell was Brett on anyway? I mean the guy was like a machine!" Kevin reminisced. Mitch shrugged and hurried back over to Scott's side, as he was struggling to hold his balance.

"Can we please leave now?" Joey asked impatiently.

"Yeah. It's over, let's go home." Scott replied and attempted to smile down at Mitch but it hurt to smile. Before they could move they heard coughing and heavy breathing coming from across the room. Joey pulled out his gun and let go of Connor and walked over to the man who had shot Kevin. He was moaning in pain and coughing; clearly dying very slowly. Mitch glanced up at Scott who nodded to him, and the two slowly made their way over to Joey. Once they got to him the man smirked.

"Y-you think it's o-over?" He said through a mixture of laughter and coughs. "You have n-no idea w-what you've g-gotten yourself i-into h-here...." He continued.

"What are you talking about?" Mitch asked angrily. The man laughed again and shook his head as his breathing quickened even more.

"B-Brett m-made sure to c-call some.....someone y-you know very well....g-ggot him outa p-prison and everything." He stopped and began to cough violently; sputtering up blood in the process.

"Who the fuck are you talking about?" Joey yelled in frustration but it was too late, the guy was gone.

"Fuck." Scott grumbled. He had no idea who Brett could have gotten out of prison, but he had a lot of enemies, therefore it could be anyone.

"Ok...we have to go. He could have been messing with us....we don't know anything for sure." Mitch reasoned but, but in his heart he knew this wasn't over. They could never catch a break so why would things start to work out now? Scott knew he wouldn't have said it unless it was true. He wouldn't have a reason to say it...he was dying and making up some stupid lie to freak them out, there would be no point in that. Still he let Mitch take the lead back through the hallway and out the door; dodging bodies the whole way out.

"Thanks for letting me stay here." Connor said as Joey helped him out of the car.
