Chapter 2: Blast From The Past

Scott drove aimlessly down the street still unable to shake the dream. He hadn't had these nightmares in years, not since right after he'd killed his father so he wasn't quite sure why he was having them now. Maybe it was because he wasn't distracting himself by killing people anymore and that was forcing the old memories that he had so well pushed down to come back. He could still see the look on his father's face, the blank stare as he lay on the floor covered in blood...sudden frantic honking snapped Scott out of it just in time and he skidded to a stop before running a stop sign and almost hitting another car. "Whoa Scott...get control of yourself for god's sake..." He mumbled to himself shaking his head to clear the image of his dead father out of his mind. He carefully looked both ways and then finally pulled through the intersection. What was wrong with him? Why the hell was he falling apart all of a sudden? He couldn't let Mitch see him this way, he had to be the strong one. He pulled into his work parking lot , but before he could shut off his car he noticed a car pull up beside his. He rolled his eyes and leaned is forehead on the steering wheel. The person in the other car got out and knocked on Scott's window, which Scott tried to ignore. It was his very annoying manager who he was hoping to avoid this morning. The knocking continued and Scott sighed and rolled down his window mentally willing himself to plaster on a smile.

"Well, well Scotty...." The balding man smirked. "It's 8:02 a.m. and you were supposed to be here at 8." Scott smiled trying not to imagine himself jumping through the window and snapping the man's neck. "Now what does that tell me about you?" He asked as he pushed up his glasses. Scott shrugged.

"That I'm a careful driver and didn't rush through traffic?" Scott sassed. His manager scowled at him and Scott smirked. "No Scott it tells me that you don't care about your job very much." He replied and Scott threw him a glare. "Well if you don't leave me alone and let me get inside I'll be even more late so are we done?" His manager looked shocked by his response but Scott could care less about what the beer bellied asshole thought. He knew the guy couldn't fire him unless he got the ok from the big boss who happened to love Scott so he wasn't worried about losing his job at all.

"Get to work Scott." He stated and walked away. Scott loosened his grip on the steering wheel, which he hadn't realized he was grasping so hard, and turned off his car. He got out of the car and then thought he saw someone duck behind one of the bushes by the building, someone that he recognized. He locked his car and cautiously walked towards the bushes. As he got closer the person stepped out into view and Scott froze. It was exactly who he thought it was.

"Brett?"He asked very surprised to see him.

"Slade, how ya been?" Brett asked; his voice slightly sarcastic.

"What are you doing here? How did you even know where I was?" Brett smirked and leaned casually against the building.

"I have my ways. So, heard a rumor you aren't in the business anymore...that can't be true..." Scott eyed him suspiciously.

"You heard right, I don't do that anymore." Scott replied calmly. He watched Brett carefully as he walked around him; circling like a vulture. He knew how this man worked and he didn't trust him, not for one second.

"Gotta say I didn't see that coming..."

"What do you want Brett." Scott asked cutting him off. Brett smirked.

"I need you to...help me with something."

"Not a chance." Scott stated and turned to walk away.

"Now come on Slade, you owe me." Scott turned back and furrowed his eyebrows.

 "I don't owe you anything."

"Oh yes you do. Because of you I spent eight years in prison! Eight fucking years Slade!" Scott looked into Brett's angry eyes preparing himself in case the guy wanted a fight. "Now, I'm willing to overlook that for one simple favor." Brett continued. Scott sighed and shook his head.

"What happened to you wasn't my fault. I warned you many times that your carelessness was going to get you caught and you almost ruined the entire job for the whole team. It's because of you that I stopped working with other's." Brett glared at him which Scott expected. He knew he wasn't going to be happy with the truth.

"You just left me there! I was shot and you left me there bleeding all over the place!" He yelled. Scott slowly walked closer to him; annoyance in his eyes.

"You were shot in the leg, not life threatening and I was not about to blow the whole job on you. Blame me if you want but you and I both know it was your fault. Whatever you want, I won't help you." Scott stated firmly. Brett looked a little disappointed, yet also amused by the decision.

"That's very unfortunate Slade." He sighed and took a few steps forward so he was right in Scott's face. "Say hello to your boyfriend for me...Mitch is it? He's very handsome by the way." Scott's eyes narrowed as Brett held up a photo of Mitch walking out of his school. Scott felt the anger rise inside him and in one swift move he grabbed Brett's shoulders and slammed him into the bricks of the building.

"Stay the hell away from him!" He growled which seemed to amuse Brett even more.

"Let's put it this way...you help me and I'll stay away from him."

"How about I kill you now and be done with this whole damn this?"

"You could...but something tells me you won't. You don't kill anymore right?" Scott tightened his grip on Brett's shoulders.

"For you I'd make an exception." He hissed. Brett laughed and shook his head.

"Come on Slade you don't think I'm here alone right? You can kill me but my friends can still get to little Mitchie." Brett smiled triumphantly. Scott wanted to kill him, he felt the familiar itch in the back of is skull and wanted to just snap his neck right now so he didn't have to deal with him anymore, but instead he let him go and backed away.

"I won't help you. Stay away from Mitch and stay away from me. You know what I'm capable of so are you sure you really want to start this?" Scott eyed Brett as he stepped away from the building slowly.

"You also know what I'm capable of. So you tell me Slade, do you want to start this?" Scott said nothing, only turned on his heels and walked away from Brett before he changed his mind and decided to kill him. He was a good forty minutes late for work now and he knew his manager would give him an earful for it. He was also a little worried about Mitch but knew he needed to do a little dammage control for his job before he could call him to make sure he was ok. One thing Scott knew for sure though was that if Brett did anything to Mitch, he'd kill him.
