Chapter 20: The Plan

Scott needed a plan. He needed a way to get into the other warehouse without putting Mitch in more danger. After seeing what Brett did to Joey, he knew the guy was serious about killing Mitch if he didn't help him but Scott also wasn't planning on giving in. There had to be another way out of this. He was alone in this though which made it harder. Joey was injured and couldn't help, and even if he wasn't injured he wasn't sure how the kid could help. He messed up before and now Brett would know he'd try to save Mitch again, it'd be hard to try to sneak in. Plus, he almost lost a fight and got himself killed also which wasn't like him. He wasn't focussed because he was too worried about Mitch, which is exactly what Brett wanted. Mitch said there was only five of them and he killed one, let one go...that left Brett and two other men. Unless Brett actually has more and Mitch just didn't see the other men...or he could've recruited more men in the two days since Scott had rescued Joey. There was just so many possibilities and that's what Scott hated, the unknown.

"Will you relax a little?" Joey finally yelled and Scott stopped pacing back and forth to look at him. "You're making me nervous..." He mumbled and Scott sighed and sat down.

"I'm worried about Mitch. There's something....not right about Brett. Who knows what he's doing to Mitch right now..." He replied and stood back up, unable to sit still anymore.

"I picked up on that too. He would be fine one minute and completely freak out the next, or be freaking out and throwing punches and the next minute be acting all normal and calm." Joey explained which only seemed to make Scott freak out more.

"Has he hurt Mitch?" He asked; his tone very serious as he sat back down in front of Joey. Joey debated on whether or not he should tell him the truth. "Joey what did he do to Mitch?" Scott continued noticing Joey's hesitation. Joey glanced up at Scott and then cleared his throat.

"Brett came in once, apparently after talking to you...saying you were pissing him off and he completely lost it. He went after Mitch and hit him a bunch but stopped when I screamed at him." Joey explained but then wished he hadn't when he saw the horrified look on Scott's face.

"What else?" Scott pressed. Joey sighed not wanting to tell Scott everything as he knew it would just make him more mad, but Scott was giving him a look that told Joey if he didn't answer he'd kill him.

"After Mitch talked to you, when they brought him back in he looked like he'd been worked over a few more times....but that's it. And he was ok Scott, I mean he was sore but he was able to stand and move around." Joey tried to make it seem like it wasn't that bad but he knew Scott didn't care how bad it was. The point was that Brett put his hands on Mitch and Joey could tell Scott was livid.

"I'll kill him....he's dead....fucking bastard!" Scott growled and jumped back up. "I mean I was already going to kill him for what he did to you but...now....now, he's going to beg me to kill him when I'm done with him!" Joey was kind of shocked to hear him say that, and Scott noticed his expression. "What?" He asked and Joey shrugged.

"Nothing....I mean...I didn't think you would be that upset about me getting hurt." He laughed but Scott kept his serious expression on.

"Joey of course I'm upset!"

"I just thought you thought I was super annoying and didn't really like me much..." Joey admitted.

"Well you are annoying, but I like you. And when I saw you laying there...blood everywhere....I couldn't handle it. I thought you were dead and...I don't know I was devastated." He explained to a still shocked looking Joey. He watched Scott carefully as he paced back and forth. He never realized Scott cared about him like that. Scott was a good guy regardless of what he's done in his past, but he was a little nervous. He's never really seen Scott kill anyone....or talk about killing anyone and he was downright scary that's for sure.

"Scott?" He finally asked after there was a long awkward silence. Scott stopped and looked back at him. "What are you going to do exactly?" He asked hesitantly.

"I'm not sure yet. I need to get a plan together because the last time I went in without an actual plan....you almost died. I can't risk anything happening to Mitch." Joey nodded in agreement. He wasn't sure what had happened when Scott came because he was too busy getting stabbed and everything but apparently Scott's plan, or lack of plan didn't go well, plus Scott had a bandage on his neck and the blood was seeping through so that told Joey he had gotten a little beat up. Suddenly Scott looked over at Joey with wide eyes.

"What? What is it?" Joey asked anxiously and Scott smiled.

"I think I have an idea."

"And this idea of yours is....what?" Scott didn't answer but only walked to the door. "Scott wait! Where are you going?" He asked and Scott paused with his hand on the doorknob.

"I've got to go get everything ready. It's probably better if you don't know the details." Scott replied and opened the door. Joey wasn't going to back down though, he wanted to know what was going through Scott's mind.

"I'll come with you!"

"NO! You'll stay here where it's safe." Scott snapped making the boy frown.

"I can help! You can't go in there alone Scott...look what happened last time!" Joey protested. Scott sighed and looked at Joey with understanding eyes.

"I know you want to help, but you can't. You're hurt for one, and two....if anything happens to you...I just can't Joey." He turned again to leave and Joey made one last attempt for information.

"At least tell me where you're going....do you know where they're keeping Mitch?" He pleaded with Scott to tell him something...anything to put his mind more at ease. Scott looked at the pleading boy and felt bad. He didn't want Joey to know too much but he could tell he was freaking out. He decided that giving him a little information wouldn't hurt and maybe it would calm him down a little.

"Apparently Brett has another warehouse like the one he kept you in before on the other side of the city. I'm not sure exactly where but it can't be that hard to find. It's no doubt that's where he'll be keeping Mitch. Just please stay here and stay safe." He stated and walked out the door letting it close behind him. Joey crossed his arms and frowned. He didn't want to stay here another night. He hated hospitals and, yes he was in pain but he felt ok and he didn't like the idea of Scott going in there alone. He thought about what he could do to help and sighed loudly when he realized there probably wasn't much he could do. He wasn't exactly a fighter and he wasn't very good with a gun...but if he had to stay in bed another minute he was going to go crazy. He pushed the blankets off of him and carefully got off the bed, only wincing a little bit. He walked round a little getting used to the pain before he made his way to the bathroom to shower and get ready to go. He was going to check himself out of the hospital and...well after that he wasn't sure. The only thing he knew was he couldn't stay there.
