Chapter 30: Got Em'

Mitch watched Scott duck into the hallway and stopped firing, glancing over at Joey who had also stopped. Now all they had to do was get rid of these dicks and help Scott. Easy right? It was no secret that Scott was different, he was...not necessarily weaker....but Mitch could tell he wasn't the killer he used to be. He really could care less about Kevin, the guy was kind of an asshole, but the fact that Scott cared about him told Mitch he wasn't the same Scott as before. He wasn't sure if Scott would be able to kill Brett or not and he didn't feel comfortable thinking about Scott in a position where he was vulnerable.

Joey lowered his gun and let out an exasperated sigh. Mitch had hit one more man which left only four for them to take out but their progress was too slow. He knew Scott went to find Brett and that was all well and good but how were he and Mitch going to get out of this? He was suddenly startled by a faint whimper to his left and he glanced over to see a man, or rather a boy laying behind another cluster of wooden crates. It took Joey a minute to see it but he finally realized the kid had been shot right below the knee. He instantly knew the kid must be one of Kevin's guys and his heart went out to him, seeing his face twisted in pain. He couldn't be more than 21 years old. Joey army crawled to the edge of the crates he was behind and waved over to the boy, who acknowledged him immediately. "Hey, you ok over there?" Joey yelled and the kid shook his head. "Just hang on a sec." He replied and looked back over to Mitch. The firing had stopped for the time being but he knew as soon as he made a move they would see him and the bullet's would be flying again.

Mitch had heard Joey whistle and he looked over to see him pointing over to another bunch of crates. Mitch squinted and saw a boy, not much older than him leaning against the crates holding his leg. He put two and two together and realized the kid must have come with Kevin. Joey pointed to his gun and the nodded towards the other gunman, then waved Mitch over hoping to get his point across. Mitch nodded picking up on what Joey was saying and got ready to run for the crates. Joey glanced up at where the other men were and could see one of them poking his head out of his hiding spot. Figuring this was his best chance to take the guy out he turned back to Mitch and mouthed one, two, three, jumping up and firing as Mitch ran toward him. Mitch slid behind the crates, tumbling into Joey and knocking him onto his back, completey throwing off his shot. Mitch giggled and then helped him sit back up. "You always seem to be positive even in the worst situation." Joey mumbled earning another smile from Mitch.

"Well the way I see it, things can't get much wor....."

"Don't!" Joey hissed cutting Mitch off. "Don't say that because things always get worse when you say that!" He continued. Mitch shrugged his shouders and smirked, then looked passed Joey to the boy who looked to be in a lot of pain.

"We have to get to him, he needs help." Mitch said turning back to Joey who nodded in agreement. He looked around and noticed that they could get a better angle from where the kid was, leading him to believe it would be easier to take out the rest of Brett's men from that position. "What are you thinking Joey?" Mitch asked seeing the wheels turning in his head.

"He has a better angle than than we do..." He answered raising an eyebrow.

"Alright, we run for it. Stay low, and move fast." Mitch stated and prepared himself to make a break for it. Joey said nothing but followed Mitch's lead. He pushed the pain from his stab wound out of his mind so he would be able to keep up with Mitch, even though it wasn't very far of a run. "Now!" Mitch hissed and took off with Joey right on his heels; bullet's pinging around them as they swiftly made their way over to the boy. They easily made it without being hit and Mitch decided that these assholes weren't very good shot's since they had yet to hit either of them. They were probably just random guys Brett hired off the street, expendable guys. Mitch turned his attention to the boy whom Joey was looking at and glanced down at the wound.
