Chapter 12: Old Habits

 *Flashback

"There he is, come on." Avi stated and raised his gun as he hurried out of the shadows.

"Avi wait!" Scott hissed but it was too late. He rolled his eyes and hurried after the bearded man. Avi was a professional yes but this target wasn't a normal sivillian. He was also a professional and Avi was charging in half cocked. Before he knew it there was gunfire and he knew their cover was blown. "God damn it you moron!" Scott yelled when he finally reached Avi.

"Shut the hell up and shoot!" Avi yelled as he took another shot at the other man.

"This is NOT how I do things!" Scott yelled and stayed down. He liked to do things slow and quiet, Avi apparently liked to make a scene.

"Oh come on, where's your sense of adventure!" Avi laughed and turned to him as the fireing siesed. Scott scowled at him. "What?" Avi asked as Scott continued to scowl.

"I'm deciding whether or not to shoot you that's what." He grumbled and Avi laughed again.

"Aww and I thought we were becoming great friends." He replied and Scott rolled his eyes. He glanced around the corner and saw the man peeking out from behind the opening of a doorway.

"Alright watch him, I'm going to get him from behind." Scott stated and got ready to slip away. Avi grumbled and shook his head.

"No I'll do it you watch him." He argued and Scott glared at him.

"I'm not going to argue with you about it!" He hissed and before Avi could say another word he slipped out of hiding and scrambled into the shadows. Before he even got a foot away he saw Avi come out of hiding and fire once at the man. Scott focussed on the man who was still hiding but he could see him raise his gun and he had a perfect shot at Avi. "Fuck!" Scott yelled and ran for Avi. "Look out!" Scott yelled as the gun went off. Scott threw himself into Avi and tackled him to the ground hearing the bullet wiz by where his head used to be. Scott rolled and fired his own shot towards the man smiling when he made contact. He watched the man slump out of the doorway and hit the ground. He turned to look at Avi who was sitting up now and eyeing him agrily. "What are you glaring at? I just saved your life!" He yelled and Avi crossed his arms.

"Whatever I knew what I was doing..." He grumbled and Scott shook his head as he got to his feet.

"Whatever you say. Help me get rid of him and then we can go our seperate ways and never do this again." Scott answered; his voice full of annoyance. Avi rolled his eyes and got to his feet following Scott to the body.

*End Flashback

Scott was completely zoned out thinking about that night. He remembered it like it was yesterday and all of a sudden he realized he had pulled up at Mitch's school. He glanced at his watch, Mitch's class should be getting out right about now and Scott wanted to be outside waiting for him. He made up his mind he was going to tell Mitch everything and then propose to him. Sure it wouldn't be as good as if they were at a fancy restraunt but Scott didn't think Mitch cared about all of those things. He walked over to the building and waited by the doors seeing students walking out. He looked for Mitch but didn't see him anywhere. Once the student traffic passed he made his way inside and again looked around for Mitch. He went to the cafeteria, the student loundge, even the office but Mitch wasn't anywhere. Confused, he walked back outside and pulled out his phone. He dialed Mitch's number and waited for him to anwer. He heard the familiar sound of Mitch's ringtone and a red flag went up in his head. He kept dialling and looking until he saw the phone laying under a bush on the side of the building. This was bad. He picked up the phone and then looked frantically around thinking that maybe, just maybe Mitch was around somewhere. When it was obvious he wasn't Scott ran back to his car and sped home afraid of what he might find when he got there. He slammed on the breaks and in a split second was out of the car and in the house. "Mitch! Joey!" He yelled and felt his heart drop when there was no answer. He walked into the living room and saw a lamp laying on the floor broken. "Guys?!" He yelled again and again there was no answer. He pulled out Mitch's phone and scrolled through his numbers for Joey's number as he'd ever put the kids number in his phone. He dialed it and waited and waited until finally it was answered. "Joey?" He asked and was met with laughter.

"No Slade it's not Joey, but I'm glad to know that's his name. So Mitch isn't the only one you're fucking?" Scott closed his eyes as the anger rose inside him so much he was sure it was going to burst through his body.

"What the fuck are you doing Brett!" He growled angrily and again Brett laughed.

"I warned you what could happen if you didn't accept my offer." He replied. Scott wanted to chuck his phone across the room he was so pissed.

"Where are they." He asked through clenched teeth.

"They're here, safe and sound don't you worry about that. But if you don't agree to help me then well...use your imagination." He chuckled.

"Brett I swear to GOD if they're hurt...."

"You'll what? Tell me Slade what are you going to do? Come find me and kill me and all my men? Is that what you'll do?" He mocked.

"That's exactly what I'll do!" He yelled.

"And how are you going to get through all of us?" He seemed amused at the mention of Scott coming to kill them all.

"Why don't you ask Mitch's dad and his men...oh that's right you can't because I killed them all." He stated and there was a long pause.

"Here's what you're going to do. You're going to come here, and help me and then I'll let them go." He replied and Scott scoffed.

"Yeah right! I'm supposed to believe you'll just let them go after this? I know you better than you think I do." Scott answered.

"If you don't I'll kill them both right now." He grumbled and Scott squeezed the phone tighter.

"No, you won't. You need them as leverage and if you kill them then there's nothing stopping me from killing you." Scott stated confidently.

"You have four days to consider my offer Slade. Then I kill the boys." And with that he hung up. Scott yelled out in anger and frustration and chucked his phone across the room. It hit the wall and shattered into pieces.

"FUCK! Fuck fuck fuck!" He yelled and punched the nearest wall so hard that his fist went right through it. He looked at his now bruised hand and then at the hole and sighed. He should have known Brett would do something like this, he should have been there to protect them! But he was off by himself like a selfish dick and now Mitch and Joey....he suddenly started to panic at the thought of losing Mitch. He couldn't live without him, he wasn't anything but a monster without him. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the maroon box containing the ring. He opened it and glanced down at how pretty it was, and it was just Mitch's style too. He pictured Mitch wearing it, showing it off to his classmates and telling them all about what the wedding was going to be like. He pictured Mitch walking down the isle looking stunning as always and smiling from ear to ear. Joey would probably be there, also smiling...or maybe not since he still kind of likes Mitch. But everything would be perfect. The flowers, the suits, the rings. Scott had pictured that day many times and he wasn't going to let Brett get in the way of he and Mitch having a normal life. That's when the anger rose inside him again and the only thing he could see was his hands around Brett's throat, slowly choking the life out of him. That's exactly what he was going to do. He was going to find them and get Mitch and Joey back, and he was going to kill anyone who got in his way. All he had to do was poke around a little and he'd be sure to find them. After all this was what he was good at, finding people and killing them. It was his job for so long and it'd be just like riding a bike to get back into it. He only had four days to find them but he didn't think he needed that long. He walked upstairs to his office and pulled out his computer automatically slipping into his old habbits. He'd have to start from the begining, from when Brett first got out of prison to all of the places he'd been since he got out. Scott Hoying was gone for now and Slade was back.
