With a loud bang, the box that Yoongi had so bravely held up when he had opened the door fell to the floor, but the shock had now allowed gravity to win.
"You got married?" Yoongi asked, now completely confused.
"Not that I know of." I shook my head and looked at Jungkook, who grinned at me.
"Yes, you did." he said.
"Um, but I was here the whole time, how could I have gotten married?" I asked him, frowning. Was he crazy? Should I call the police before he tied us up and cooked us?
"Silly girl, you should read what you sign and what you give your fingerprint for..." he said and stroked my cheek. I almost bit his finger, but I was a little worried that his dog would do the same to me. Jungkook put down the box he was carrying with one hand as if it weighed nothing and took out a piece of paper. A marriage certificate... with his name and mine, stamped by the city.
"This came in the post earlier, after I registered us online. Oh, and since you didn't read anything, you also signed that you have to stay married for two years and live together during that time, otherwise you have to pay me a contractual penalty of 5 billion won (approx. 3.75 million euros) as a fine," he explained and I couldn't breathe. I was so horrified I couldn't get a word out
"I'll call my lawyer," came from Yoongi, who had remained totally calm and disappeared into his office.
While I was still standing there rooted to the spot, Jungkook calmly carried his things into our guest room and his dog sat down next to me to lick my hand in peace. Mephisto sat on the kitchen cupboard and eyed the dog with hostility, who only barked at the cat once in greeting, but then turned back to me. The cat looked at me reproachfully.
"What? I wasn't serious earlier... that's not my dog..." I defended myself, but the dog apparently saw it differently, because he turned around three times and then lay down in front of me with his butt on my feet. I didn't know whether I should panic or not, because someone had to be going crazy if Yoongi was staying so calm and Jungkook was taking over our apartment without a care in the world. That couldn't be right, how could you register a marriage online? I took my cell phone out of my hoodie pocket and called the registry office to find out what the registration options were. My heart sank and my hands began to tremble as I was told about online registration. It was possible.
"No, no, he didn't... that's not possible, he can't just..." I mumbled to myself in shock.
"Yes, I could and I did." said Jungkook, who was just carrying the last box in and closing the door with his foot.
"Jackson says the contract is valid... I faxed him everything and you can't get out of it until the two years are up." Yoongi explained as he stepped out of the office. I looked at him desperately, I didn't want to lose him, the fear that he was leaving was choking me, but he saw what was going on inside me and grabbed my hand.
"I won't let you down, I'll stay with you no matter what." he assured me gently, then turned to Jungkook.
"We should talk. What you did..." but he didn't get any further, because I had overcome my paralysis, clenched my fist, took a swing and punched Jungkook so hard on the nose that it started to bleed. Then I jumped on him and pulled his hair. The dog retreated behind the sofa in fright, not seeing the point of helping his owner, while Yoongi looked at me in shock, but then laughed before pulling me off the perplexed Jungkook, who had probably reckoned with Yoongi's fist but not mine...
