It was late. Far beyond anyone's regular bedtime. Four in the morning. The stars glittered above in the sky, the moon casting a dim light upon the landscape.
Though neither Vlad nor Victoria were paying attention to the rather scenic view. They were together in Vlads study, Victoria sitting in a chair while he towered over her, leaning against the wall.
"What did you tell Evangeline?" He asked quietly, his voice cold, quiet, and severe.
She fluttered her eyes at him innocently, blinking as though she had no idea what was going on.
"Oh, her? I haven't seen her since the picnic. Why would I have told her anything?"
He glared at her, his eyes darkening.
"I'm going to give you a choice. Either you tell me exactly what you told her, or.. I rip you apart, limb from limb, and display your severed head on a spike in front of the castle."
Her eyes widened and she leaned backwards, clearly surprised. He was.. threatening her?
Or, that he was warning her.
A warning. A warning was beyond a threat, right? Because she knew he wouldn't hesitate to carry out his words. She knew how heartless he could be.
And so she gave in.
What other choice was there for her?
"Fine," she grumbled, not making eye contact with him. "I lied to her. The day after the picnic I went to her cottage and.. put some words in your mouth."
"What words? Spit it out."
"I told her.." she began, faltering "That you- you were just bored, using her as a form of entertainment, a way to pass time, that you never really cared about her. That you told me you were done with her."
"Why?" He whispered in a hoarse voice, low and husky, his anger barely held back. The sheer amount of self control he was exhibiting was quite a surprise to Victoria.
"I guess I just didn't want you two to continue your friendship," she mumbled.
"I already told you that I see her as nothing but a friend, and yet you still went out of your way to go after her? To lie to her about me? You pathetic little wench."
"You know what?" he continued quietly in a more restrained voice. "I'm going to take you to her home right now. And you're going to confess to your lies and beg for an apology."
"Vlad, it's four in the morning! We can't possibly go there, she'll be fast asleep!" Victoria protested, clearly trying to wriggle her way out of having to go through with it.
"Do I look like I care? Get up. Right now," he hissed, grabbing her by the arm and ripping her out of her seat, pushing her out of his study, and then out of the castle.
His firm grip left a dark purple bruise on her pale skin, and she whined in discomfort as he guided her roughly towards the cottage in the distance.
Once they arrived, he started banging on the door as loudly as he possibly could have.
It was time to pay Evangeline a visit.
