She immediately staggered backwards, making some space between her nose and the blade, which shook slightly as he held it in her face.

In hindsight, she could have easily slipped out the door, which Vlad had left open when he disappeared.

Though in the moment, her thoughts were preoccupied.

"Wh-what do y-you want?" she gasped, feeling herself begin to shake violently.

He towered over her, glaring with a fury she never could've imagined such a.. normal looking boy to have about him before he responded.

"Don't you dare move," he finally whispered after a long moment.

She nodded, silently staring up at him as he reached into the pocket of his trousers to extract a long length of rope.

Without another word, he suddenly pounced, dropping the knife and putting all his effort into binding her, tying her wrists to each other, and then moving to her ankles.

Once he had decided that she was securely bound, with no chance of escape, he picked up the pocket knife once more from the spot it had been abandoned on.

It was only now that he felt at peace and secure- he could begin.

He kicked her once, in the stomach, for good measure before turning and venturing deeper into her cottage.

He had done this a few times before- gotten his way into houses under the pretense of being a paper boy, then holding the owner at knifepoint, tying them up so they couldn't get away, and robbing them blind.

A plan he was now about to enact here.

He had heard Evangeline was wealthy, that she was a noblewoman from France. Such news travelled quickly in a village as small as theirs, and so he had immediately decided she would be his next target.

He had been expecting to find countless expensive items, jewelry, gowns, and such- things he could pawn off for enough money to last a lifetime.

However, as he made his way through the house, he was sorely disappointed.

It seemed almost as though Evangeline had come with nothing but the clothes on her back.

He had done all of this for absolutely nothing.

Angrily, he kicked one of the walls, cursing under his breath and deciding to just leave.

He made his way back to the front foyer, where he found her still there, seemingly having been struggling against the ropes, though she immediately stopped when he appeared.

As he gazed down at her, he found one question running through his mind.

What on earth was he going to do with her now that he knew she had nothing to offer him?
