"Let us not think about such.. negative subjects," he finally said after a moment "We should focus on the positives- you shall soon be my wife."
"And this soon to be wife of yours must take her leave now."
"Why is that?" he asked, sounding dejected.
"I must write letters back home to announce my engagement. I cannot imagine they'll be thrilled."
"Whyever would they not be?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You're a vampire," she said simply.
"Ah. Touché."
"Don't take offense by it," she shrugged, leaning forward and kissing his cheek "I'll make them see reason regardless. See you soon!"
He smiled softly at her receding figure until he once more found himself alone in the room.
Evangeline spent the next hour or so penning letters to her father and friends, alerting them to her upcoming marriage and inviting them to the wedding.
Once she had finished, she stood up, leaving the castle and shipping out the letters before returning a few minutes later.
However, as she began walking upstairs, she came across her fiancé.
"Where have you been?" he asked, creeping up behind her and walking in pace
"Out mailing the letters, of course."
"How long does it take for them to reach France?" he asked "I imagine you've contacted them before?"
"As a matter of fact, I haven't," she responded "They haven't heard anything from me ever since I was first kicked out.. and vice versa."
"So they've essentially abandoned you?"
"Something like that."
"Perhaps they shouldn't come to the wedding then," he suggested. "Especially considering what you said earlier about their not even supporting our match."
"You may be right," she relented "However, they're still my family. Despite the fact that our relationship is a tad strained, I find myself unwilling to simply cut them off."
"A tad?" he repeated, his voice taking on a slightly teasing edge.
"Fine," she relented "Perhaps more than that."
"Perhaps?"
"Are you just going to repeat everything I say or do you plan on adding anything useful
to this conversation?" she asked.
"Are you just going to repeat everything I say or do you plan on adding anything useful
to this conversation?" he repeated once more, making his voice more high in pitch, trying to mimic her own.
She shoved him away, fighting back a laugh, and he cracked, reaching over to ruffle her hair affectionately.
"You know," he suddenly said, out of the blue "It's still early. Perhaps we should go out tonight."
"Where do you have in mind?"
"Maybe it's a surprise," he responded, a cocky smile on his face. "You'll just have to wait and see. Go upstairs and get ready, then meet me downstairs. I'll be waiting."
With that, he gently pushed her off, settling against one of the pillars near the gates of the castle as he waited for her return.
She was soon back, wearing a pink gown with copious amounts of lace.
Before he could even get a word in- a greeting, or maybe a compliment to her appearance, she spoke.
"So where are you taking me?"
He raised an eyebrow.
"Eager, are we? You'll find out. Come with me."
With that, he held out his arm. Begrudgingly, she took it, clearly disappointed by the fact that he wasn't yet divulging the mystery location.
He led her to a carriage waiting outside, opening the door and helping her take a seat.
"Comfortable?"
"As much as one can be," she mumbled as she adjusted her skirts. "Is this place far?"
"Not particularly. Perhaps a ten minute drive, give or take some."
"Ten minutes too long if you ask me."
"Reign in your curiosity," he chuckled "It's not too long to wait. And trust me, it'll be worth it."
