Immediately, he rushed back, leaning over her with worry etched on his expression, examining her as if trying to see if anything was wrong with her.

He felt tempted to say something, to shake her awake and speed it all up, to hear her voice again, telling him she was okay, that she maybe even loved him too.

But he knew he couldn't do that.

Instead, he was powerless, watching as she slowly woke, moving at an agonizing pace.

The first thing she felt after coming to was the sensation of the bed beneath her, unnaturally soft, and nothing like the grass she had been left on last night.

She didn't recall having a blanket, either, or feeling so warm. And was that.. a fireplace crackling, that she could hear in the distance?

What was going on?

Her eyes snapped open, and immediately met Vlads.

For a moment, she came close to screaming, startled by his presence.

But upon actually registering who he was, her fear died down. She was simply on edge from the encounter the previous night.

She didn't say a word for a long time, only gazing up at him like that.

Evangeline was, for once in her life, speechless.

Vlad began to get concerned- she was clearly awake, staring up at him, and yet still had not spoken.

Unlike her, to say the least.

Had she gotten her tongue cut off by whoever had done this to her? He hadn't checked..

Right when he was about to ask if she was okay, she finally spoke.

"Water," she choked out, her throat dry.

That's one way to say thank you.

Either way, he was grateful now for the knowledge that her tongue was in fact quite safe inside her mouth.

He nodded, standing up, leaving the room, and returning shortly with a glass of sparkling water.

He helped her sit up in bed before bringing the edge of the glass to her lips, guiding her with a hand on the back of her head as she guzzled it down.

Once she finished, he hesitated before speaking.

"You alright there?"

She didn't respond, instead asking him a question.

"What happened?"
