It was difficult to make out much of her due to the darkness, but soon enough she got close enough for Evangeline to be able to get a good look at her.
The woman was wearing a long, deep red gown- fancy, by the looks of it, a noble obviously, and had long black hair that bounced in the breeze. Her skin was pale, her lips as red as blood.
She towered over Evangeline, who was still sitting on the ground. "You're.. Evangeline, right?" The woman spoke after a moment of tense silence, the air becoming thick and an unsettling feeling beginning to stir within Evangeline's stomach.
She nodded though, pausing her work. "I am."
"Vlad was telling me about you."
"Oh, so then you're the guest he's having over, right?"
The woman nodded, holding out her hand. "Correct. I'm Victoria. A pleasure to meet you."
Evangeline hesitantly took the outstretched hand, feeling startled by how cold it was, and immediately pulling away.
She raised an eyebrow. "Anyways. I wanted to come see you. I was curious about who the mystery girl he was telling me about was."
"He told you about me?"
"Quite a few times, actually," Victoria responded. "So naturally, I couldn't help but feel curious as to who you were. What you were like. All that," she said as she inched closer to Evangeline before sitting down besides her.
"Washing dishes, are you? Maybe I can help as we talk."
Evangeline flashed her a small grateful smile before handing her one of the dishes, noticing that she didn't seem to smile back, instead maintaining an almost cold demeanor.
"So," she began. "How long have you known Vlad?"
"Oh.. maybe about two weeks. I'm new here, to the countryside, I haven't known him for very long. And you?"
"We've been close for a few centuries," Victoria responded casually. Evangeline's eyes widened in shock.
"Centuries? What? Are you- are you a vampire too?"
She nodded in response, dipping the plate into the water casually, not seeming even remotely surprised by Evangeline's reaction.
"Correct. I'm a vampire."
Evangeline went silent, appearing unsure of what to say next, so she just pursed her lips and gave a slight nod, trying to recover and regain a bit of composure, embarrassed by her slip up.
"I see," she finally said after a moment.
A silence fell upon the two women. None spoke, both focusing on washing the dishes, though it would have been clear to any onlooker that they were hyper aware of each others presence.
"So," Victoria began. "How has your day been?"
"Ah, it's been nice. I went to the forest over yonder," Evangeline responded, pointing off in the distance towards towards thick trees that loomed intimidatingly over the landscape.
For a moment, Victorias eyes sparked as though she had had some sort of realization, but before Evangeline could even process it, the light was gone.
"Oh, the forest? Maybe you and I could go there tomorrow. There's a river actually, that cuts through it, and I've heard that it's quite beautiful. Vlad was telling me about it this morning and he and I were planning to go there tomorrow. Perhaps you'd like to tag along?"
(A.N: I've got big plans for their outing 💪 Look forward to the next chapters guys)
