It was only right, after all, he decided.

One doesn't simply break down somebodies door and get away without even a small apology.

And so, fancying himself an honorable man, the a vampire made his way out of his bedroom and then out of the castle itself.

He continued walking, even after getting outside, until suddenly stumbling on something in his way.

Whatever it was must have been quite large for him to have even noticed it, considering his own size.

He raised an eyebrow as he looked down to his feet, making out a vaguely.. human, shape?

A human shape with what looked like blonde hair the same shade as Evangeline's, a gown the same shade of hers.. lying in a pool of her own blood.

His heart dropped.

Immediately, he fell to his knees, grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking her limp body violently.

He had completely fallen apart in a matter of seconds, his facial features curled up into an expression of pure terror- a terror he had never experienced or thought himself capable of.

For as long as he could remember, he had always been cool, calm, and composed, and yet here he was, practically having an aneurism over the gory discovery before him.

She remained unresponsive in his arms, regardless of how he would slap and shake her, which only caused the blood to drip even faster and cause a more gruesome scene.

He brought his ear to her chest, where he could feel the oh-so-faint thud of her heartbeat, slow and nearly imperceptible.

She was alive.

Relief flooded through his body, though quickly overshadowed by a sudden and overwhelming need to bring her to safety, somewhere he could tend to her.

He picked her up easily, slinging her over his shoulder and teleporting back to the castle.

More specifically, into his bedroom, where he gently laid her down on the plush sheets so that when she woke up she would feel comfortable.

He left the room and returned a few minutes later, carrying a medkit and a book of magic, both of which he would use to heal her.

Vlad knelt down before her bedside and cut through the front of her gown with some scissors, revealing the bloody mess that the knife had caused.

For the first time in his life, he felt disgusted by it all- it was less about the blood and more about the fact that someone he cared for was in pain.

A first, for him.

Regardless, he quickly got to work, treating her wounds, using magic to seal them up, then binding them in gauze that he had brought with him.

He stayed with her for the rest of the night, keeping one hand on hers in an almost soothing manner, though he knew she couldn't feel him.

She looked beautiful when she was asleep, even under such circumstances, and he found himself unable to remove his gaze from her face.

Soon, light filtered in through the window, dawn on the horizon.

Noticing said light flickering to her face, he immediately went and closed the curtains, not wanting to wake her up.

It appeared, however, that it was too late for that.

When he turned back to return to her bedside, her eyes had begun to twitch.
