Puppy Love

Steven Universe understood every facet of love that there probably was.

He understood reluctant love, like the ones he had for his aunts, The Diamonds.

He understood obligatory love, like with the gems and his dad.

He understood platonic love.

But of all the kinds of love, he especially understood unconditional, agape love. Every time he and Connie were together she could feel it emanating off of him how dearly he loved her. When he fucked her silly and cradled her alike, he put love into his every interaction for her.

But since she had hit her second trimester with a running start and they had officially confirmed the gender of their daughter, there was another form she couldn't help but melt over.

It wasn't new, quite the contrary actually. Love excited Steven. Her giant of a boyfriend, with his soft tummy and strong arms was just a big golden retriever with a nasty bite he would rather not have to show.

She smiled to herself, rubbing her stomach as Steven strummed his guitar for a group of children and sang to them. It seemed the baby fever hit everyone else a bit earlier, but the toddlers and children alike were enjoying and hanging on his every word.

Their little fingers would strum with him too sometimes. He'd hold a chord with one hand and let the little ones explore music with the biggest, happiest smile on his face. Music excited him too.

But apparently, nothing excited Steven more than Connie. He looked to her habitually and waved cheerfully, then pointed her out to the kids as if he were boasting. They waved just as jubilantly.

She waved back, grinning like an idiot. "Yes, Steven. I see you. Hello," She muttered under her breath.

One might accuse Connie of being obsessed, but she supposed there was a little obsession that came with love. Maybe not obsession, but rather enamorment. She adored how his love sometimes translated in such a juvenile manner, it meant it was pure after all. And Steven, despite their escapades, was a purely generous and loving man.

After a while her stomach started to grumble and she sighed, hating to have to tear him away from such fun. She waved him over and he got down on one knee so they could all hug and hang all over him. One even started climbing his back and his laughter traveled to her.

She could not fathom how he could perceive himself as a monster or a terrible person. It was simply impossible.

He jogged over with his guitar slung over his back and dipped down to greet their daughter first. "Azalea, I can't wait until you're out here so Daddy can hold you and sing for you."

"You sing for her all the time," Connie laughed. "And I'm gonna start getting jealous."

He placed a bunch of kisses on her bump and hummed as he nuzzled against it. "Can you blame me? I'm infatuated with her. She's so perfect, just like her Mommy." He stood and grabbed her hand, kissing it earnestly. "Miss Knight."

She curtsied as much as her body would allow for. "My Liege."

"Shall we?" He offered an arm for her and they wandered back home lazily. They had nowhere to be, and nothing to do but be with each other. "Are you in a better mood than yesterday?" He asked humorously. "Pretty sure baby's first word is gonna be 'asshole'."

She giggled. "That would not be a good look, would it?" Connie could admit she was rather crabby yesterday over there not being any tuna in the house. Steven had departed silently to grab some, hoping to not end up in the crosshairs but ended up getting an earful for leaving without saying anything. Normally she wouldn't have minded much, but she liked to have him around more while she was pregnant.
