I growled and from the corner of my eye I saw Daryl get up to hold the thing, the doctor just sighed and left the house without another word.

"Jay, I think she's gone."

"No."

Warmth began to flow back into her body and her heart lurched sickeninly way before I pulled my arm back and let my wound close itself up, I eyeballed her arm through the thin film of tears for a sign of something...anything...but didn't see anything.

"Here...you should hold your daughter."

"....no, throw the damn thing out the window."

My wound had fully closed now and I wiped my hands clean on the blanket that I put over Belle and her heart lurched painfully again, this time I saw the edges of the wound I made in her arm start to close up.

"Jay, your daughter.."

I turned around and Daryl handed me the thing he held, to call her a newborn wouldn't be right- the baby girl in my arms looked to be a few months old; she had darker skin then her mother, my chocolate brown eyes but she had Belle's jet black hair and facial features. She tilted her head to the side and smiled at me.

Woah...

She had a full set of snowy white teeth that looked like sharp little daggers but it looked like she knew me already. My heart swelled in my chest and I instantly hated myself for being disgusted with this sweet angel, she was half me and half her mother; it wasn't her fault that her mother was dying...Belle had loved the child with her life before she was even born...even if she was dead. I loved her- I must have started crying again because she reached a chubby fist out to touch my face and when she pulled her fingers back they were wet.

"Don't worry baby....daddy's fine and you will be too."

She leaned her face into my neck and my fingers shook when they touched her tiny back, Daryl hadn't moved since he gave me my daughter but he kept staring behind us at the couch.

"Mama."

I turned around to look at what they were looking at and gasped, I had been concentrating too much on my daughter's heartbeat that my finely tuned ears failed to pick up another heartbeat, a heart trying to stutter back to life if barely. Daryl rushed over to Belle and sure enough her eyelids fluttered; Daryl started crying again as my daughter turned around in my arms to get a better look and popped one of her thumbs into her mouth.

"See baby? Mommy was just resting....Daryl get ahold of yourself."

"...sorry."

He wiped at his face before he looked at the bloody mess on the carpet and the couch.

"We...should get the both of them to the bedroom or something and clean this up...I don't want her to see it."

He laughed nervously.

"Also looks like we're gonna need a new door, thanks for that."

"Sorry, but I'll get on that later- if you'll help me get the carpet."

My daughter yawned before she nuzzled herself into my neck again and closed her eyes but I wasn't worried about anything anymore, Belle would survive, we all would, I was sure of it...

"What do you think she'll think about having two daddies when she's old enough to understand?"

I shifted around ever so slightly and touched the baby soft hair at the back of my daughter's head and smiled.

"She'll understand, I'm sure. But I think the both of us can agree that she's going to be the most protected child on the planet."
