"....I don't want you to leave...isn't there somewhere close by that you can move to or something?"
He paused and flicked some of his hair from his eyes before he stood back and balanced a hand on one of his hips.
"I don't think so, you really don't want me to go huh?'
I chucked a severed finger at him and he just rolled his eyes before he smacked it away through the fence.
"Ok, ok, I get it alright? I'll try, but I plan on making a little place away from here if everyone settles down alright. Sorry.''
"Meh, meh, meh, bite me."
"Don't tempt me."
Some of our people were finally led inside by the time we had all the body parts over the fence and I finally gave in and slipped my shirt off to wring the sweat out, we walked up the gravel path and joined them going inside where thankfully, all the concrete made the cell block semi-chilled. I put my shirt back on before Carl could see me but most of our friends were already in the area that held all of the cells. I could hear Lori asking Hershel questions about the baby but there were a few of them out in this little waiting area poking at a few pieces of blackened armor.
"Yard cleared?''
I nodded and reached up to ball my hair into a knot at the back of my neck and fanned at my face with my free hand.
"Mhm, do we have any sheers or something? The heat is trying to cook me alive out there with this hair."
Maggie piped up from behind a chest piece of armor and put it down before she waved a tanned hand at the mini tower that was pressed into the wall near the cell block area.
"There was a pair of clippers in the warden's room if you want to use those, we were gonna push in a bit to find the canteen and check on the food but Beth could cut your hair if you ask her."
"I don't think so."
Beth's blonde hair bobbed in its pony tail as she rounded one of the doors and slammed a pair of clippers down on a metal table closest to both me and Jay.
"Here, you do it yourself. I don't want to touch you."
She turned to her sister and offered her an angry glare while I mutely picked up the plastic clippers and stared down at the razor blade teeth in my hands, silent.
"Don't volunteer me for things."
By the time she flicked her hair from her face I was already walking back into the heat fighting off the sting of tears in my eyes, I ducked back outside and found a far corner to start cutting my hair in. I cut maybe two chunks from the left side of my head when the tears stopped and I heard another door open further back.
"You ok?"
Jay, go figure; I kept my head bent at an angle and cut off some more hair before I answered.
"Sure, I just thought everyone was over their bitchy highschool phase by now."
Jay laughed and brushed off some hair from the back of my neck before he took the clippers from me and started cutting my hair faster, his brown hands barely touched me when he tilted my head this way and that.
"Told you so, see why I want to live on my own now?"
He tucked a few fingers under my chin to move my head to the right and I stuck my tongue out at him in response, my hair fell away faster and I felt much better when my hair barely brushed my shoulders; he popped his thumb against my lips and backed off with a grin.
"There, feel better?"
I fluffed my short hair and breathed a sigh of relief, it felt so light and even though my color still held in heat it no longer felt suffocating, it looked like there was 10 pounds of hair on the ground.
"Yeah, thanks. Did they go in yet?"
He nodded.
"They found some spray cans before they went in, Hershel went with them this time but Carl's with everyone locked up in the cell block."
"Mm...we didn't get anything to do then?"
"Nope."
His mouth popped open at the end of the word and he wiggled his eyebrows at me with a scandelous look on his face.
"Wanna go for a run?"
"It's h o t, are you high?"
Jay rolled his eyes and aimed a kick at my ankles with the heel of his left foot.
"Ok, let me rephrase that, do you want to help me scout out an area for my build? I trust your judgement."
"Fine, if it'll get you to shut up."
"Love you too asshole."

Heavy paw thuds over the bracken was all that filled my ears until Jay let out a mental sound of victory, we were maybe a good 10 miles out from the prison but my fur felt much lighter thanks to Jay's help earlier.
Found a run-down cabin, this will be perfect!
I turned around and headed West until I caught Jay's scent and followed in until sure enough, I came to a halt in a small break of trees where a broken down hunting cabin was nestled; Jay was circling the whole house with a wiggle in his step and he seemed honestly happy about the place. It didn't look that bad, but it screamed 'A lot of Work!'.
Good yeah? I can't believe that we didn't see this on our way in.
A bit much don't you think?
He came to a halt in front of me and licked my face but I jumped back out of his way and flattened my ears to my head in warning.
Watch it.
Come on now, look at this though! I could live off the land and hunt animals just fine.
His ears flickered back and forth while he just stared at the place and my temper eased up as quickly as it began, he looked honestly thrilled about it and I could see his smile even through his wolfish face.
Yeah ok I guess it looks good. How do you plan to fix it though?
