"Yeah...a bit like the old world huh?"
".....guess so....where are we supposed to be staying at then?"
All of our group had disbanded after we talked to an older looking woman and her husband near the front gates but Daryl seemed to be taking me to the furthest section of this whole place.
"Rick wanted everyone to stay in the same house for the first night I think, but I managed to convince him that it's best we have something alone."
"Mm..."
After a few more minutes of walking he stopped me in front of a small house that had dark red siding and a brown looking roof that made the whole thing look like a tiny barn, a small porch wrapped around half of it and there was a rocking bench hanging from the top near the front door.
"Home...interesting..."
"As much as it can be......let's see if they've got any running water up in there."
Thinking about all of the children I saw on the way in, they probably did.
*One Week*
Everything seemed to go ok the first week that we were here, everyone seemed to fall into their own pattern of things within the first few days after being rested up but something still felt off about the place; but the people I met seemed nice enough. What shocked me the most was the fact that there were a few married couples living here who all had various stages of gray hair, there were maybe 80 or so people throughout this whole place and plans to further expand the plots beyond the fences.
"You seem out of it this morning."
Jay elbowed me in the ribs while we walked together down the road and I had to blink against the sun for a second, since most of my scars were gone by now I started wearing a white tank top and a pair of dark blue, blue jean shorts with white sneakers. Daryl gave me the ring back the first day that we got back but he was rarely home because our schedules were so different. Jay was walking to the house with me to get a heavy looking bookcase out of the house that was starting to get mold in the corners, I could have moved it myself but he overheard me talking about rehoming the books to another place and offered to help. Since we hadn't been together much either I let him without complaining.
"Mm....I guess you could say that."
We arrived at the house and he followed me inside to the living room once I opened the front door with my hip, I brushed my feet on the rug to avoid tracking any dirt into the house and Jay stood in the doorway with his arms crossed over his chest and just looked around the tiny kitchen.
"Small little place....kinda reminds me of the house we had back at the prison."
"Yeah but this one actually has rooms and space to move around in and shit- and it's more then enough for two people so I can't complain."
He pointed to a dark brown bookcase that was in the living room near the bedroom doors before he cracked his knuckles together.
"That it?"
"Yeah, let me- let me go get some gloves or something from the room...."
I walked across the house and grabbed the doorknob to the main bedroom and hesitated when I heard noises coming from the other side, I hesitated; one glance to the couch showed Daryl's vest was draped across the frayed backside. My heart dropped- I knew why the noises seemed so familiar....but we haven't been here for that long. He wouldn't do that to me...would he?
"Belle?"
Jay was walking over to me but I held a hand up and opened the door enough to see inside through a small crack, Daryl was there alright; he was sitting on the edge of the bed naked and some random blonde headed woman was just as naked, stradled across his bare lap. I let out a small squeak of a cry and he must have heard it because the two of them stopped moving around and he looked up in complete shell shock, I slammed the door shut when the tears began in full force and ripped the ring from my hand before I threw it at the door with enough force to leave a small divot in the wood. I tried running from the house but Jay caught me before I got out to the street and kept me tethered to the edge of the front porch, holding me by the shoulders as I cried.
"Woah, woah, wait a second! What happened Belle, what's wrong with you?"
I did nothing but cry until my throat felt rubbed raw and many things happened at once at the same time, I heard hurried footsteps behind Jay and he looked at me crying one more time before he turned around and glared.
"Belle,wait..."
Ever so slightly Jay turned himself around and hid me halfway behind his body and I shivered, Daryl was halfway through the kitchen with a sheet around his waist but I just couldn't look at his face anymore.
"What did you do to her?"
"Nothing- she just....she saw something that she wasn't supposed to. Belle?"
"....what did she see?"
Jay reached a hand out to touch the top of my head to calmn me down and I held onto his fingers with a vise tight grip.
"I don't....I don't know her name.......but I don't want to go back in there anymore..."
Jay inhaled before a few of his muscles began to quiver a little and he stayed that way until he turned around to face me again and held my face between his hands, he held me that way until I stopped crying and wiped the last bit of my tears away with both his thumbs.
