"Why are you still here? You're the perfect being to deal with what's out there in the world right now!"

"Because, you choose to stay and I'm choosing to stay with you. We both know that one of us can't really exist without the other..so that's my choice."

The numbers ticked down and when they reached 10 minutes there was a powerful explosion overhead and Jay moaned, he bent down at the knees and scooped me up into his arms before he took off up the hallway with inhuman speed; when we got closer to the top, black smoke was drifting around everywhere and there was a large hole in one of the big windows. Jay leapt outside and shoved me down to the ground behind a stack of sandbags just before the biggest explosion yet rocked the earth and sent shards of glass and burned paper everywhere. My ears were ringing by the time more smoke billowed out and I could barely make out what he was trying to yell to me in the chaos.

"You're a damned idiot Belle, do you know that?"

I stuck my fingers in my ears to try and get rid of the clogged up feeling and I saw him laughing so I just settled for giving him a middle finger instead.

"Oh don't tempt me, you know I'll take it first chance you give me. There's just something so tempting about a lost cause."

The RV rumbled to a halt and when I poked my head out of the tiny bedroom in the back I saw steam billowing out from under the hood. Dale was in the process of throwing his hands up in the air as people walked past him to shove the doors open to go outside.

"I've been saying for at least two weeks now, didn't I say it? This thing wasn't going to make it far without the gasket cap from that one van that you had!"

I dodged Andrea's feet in the breakfast knook and peered over the top of his seat as the last person got off and he just offered me an apologetic smile before he too, got up.

"We're far enough away from that place if that's what you're worried about. Sorry if the shouting upset you or something."

Dale helped me down the tiny steps to the hot asphalt beyond before he flipped the middle step open and Glen came walking around the front of the RV with his red tool box in hand; he dug around the stair casing for a few seconds and summer bugs began  to chirp behind me, beyond the metal railing of the roads.

"Do you need my help with something?"

"No, but I wanna tell you something....and don't take this the wrong way ok?''

"Er- I don't mind, what's up?"

"....you seem like a nice young woman, a lovely person, and smart on top of everything. I just don't want to see something like that get destroyed in this new world. Be careful ok?"

I smiled but said nothing and just walked away up the road that was dotted with cars and let my fingers idly touch some of the hot metal while I passed.

I don't have the heart to tell him that I nearly died at the hands of a man..Dale seems to see more then what a normal person should.

I stopped at a blue truck that had three flat tires and bent over to look at my face in the reflection of a tiny mirror on the side when a set of hands seized me around the waist from behind and roughly squeezed; I saw a slimmer of brown hair in the tiny mirror and smirked before I turned around. Daryl's hands only seemed to hold onto me tighter as he pulled at me until our chests were touching one another.

"Talking to me again are we?"

He pushed me until my ass touched the window of the truck and leaned in to kiss me before he said anything.

"I never said that I would stop did I?''

"No...fair enough I guess."

He tilted my chin to the side and kissed at the sensitive skin by my earlobe and it made goosebumps pop up along the tops of my arms despite the heat.

"Having fun there you two?"

Daryl scoffed into my neck but didn't move at the sound of Jay's voice and I didn't blame him, for once, I wished he hadn't been around to interrupt us.

"I'm t r y i n g to do something here asshole....why don't you go annoy someone else for a little bit."

"As much as I would just love to see the two of you fuck like rabbits I came here to warn you that there's children around."

Daryl groaned before he finally let me go and whirled around to jab a finger at Jay's chest, Jay was visibly growling and I had to try and worm myself between the two to keep the two of them from fighting. I wasn't 100% sure of the strength we had yet but I didn't want Jay taking a chance and hurting Daryl or himself.

"I don't need you telling me what to do asshole, the last time I checked, she's mine and not yours."

"Yours? Don't make me laugh, you two hardly know one another. It's just some moronic wolfy claim that she has on you anyway, you don't even know her middle fucking name-"

Daryl went to bite back a retort but hurried footsteps up the road silenced the both of them, I looked over to my right and Rick was running up the road with his gun close to his chest and sweat dripping down his forehead onto his white shirt.

"Walkers....big hoarde, get down under the cars now!"

"What-"

Jay football tackled me over the metal railing next to the road and into the sloping hill beyond it and the air whoosed from my lungs just as some of my dark hair flopped into my eyes; he made a quiet motion with a finger to his lips while one of his hands kept me smushed flat into the warm grass. From this angle nothing would be able to see us but it still had me worried.
