Daryl's POV:
"You of all people wanted to talk to me? Pardon my French but what the fuck could you want from me?"
Bundled up as everyone else was, Jay was just walking around out in the cold with just a thin white shirt and blue jeans and over the last few months around one another he started to tolerate me but that was bound to go out of the window tonight.
"I got something for Belle when she gets back but I wanted to....ah...run it by you I guess."
I fished around the pockets of my pants and kept my fist closed around the small ring while I brought my arm back up, I got the thing two weeks prior but just kept it harbored until my dreams stopped being overtly weird; I never saw myself settling down for just one woman before everything went to shit but I didn't want to leave any mistakes behind.
"Huh? What-"
He looked down at my hand and his brown eyes narrowed into slits while his nostrils flared, I didn't know if he was like that before hand or after.....but the wolves, from what I remembered, had very good intuition.
"....that better not be what I think it is."
I opened my fingers and he growled, his hands curling into sharp claws at his sides.
"N o! You've known her for what, five or six months at the most?! I loved her first, there's no damned way you're giving that to her."
He inhaled and brought a finger up to the bridge of his nose and let it sit there before he exhaled and leered at me.
"You know what, go for it. I've done everything in my power to try and keep the two of you apart but nothing works, not a god forsaken thing fucking works. I'll just be here to pick up the pieces when you fail her."
WIth that he turned away and waved an arm over his shoulder before he walked off with a curt laugh.
"Humans."
*That Night*
Belle's POV:
By the time I was racing back to the farm my nose was the first thing to let me know that something was wrong, I got a whiff of smoke and the stale scent of gunpowder with a twinge of blood and I didn't have to get too far into the property to see why. The ATV grated to a halt outside the main gate; the barn was a blazing square against the dark of the night sky and the yards were full of the walking dead.
What the fuck?
The RV was in cinders to the left of the barn and I turned the ATV around so fast that I nearly flipped the whole thing over in my haste to drive away, there was just no way they'd leave me behind here to die....right?
They're either dead or long gone by now..the first place I'll check is the spot where we left all the old stuff for Sophia.
I flung my leg out when a walker got too close and smirked when the momentum of the bike caused my ankle to pulverize its rotten skull into a fine mush.
*
The sun was trying to poke out above the trees by the time some of the cars on the road looked familiar and the ATV was slowly losing its life power, I patted at the tank and willed it to go just a little further but it was really struggling. My eyes were hard to open after every blink but the cold wind slapping my face and causing tears to pop up into the corners of my eyes.
Sleep....I need to get some sleep...
The ATV finally died by one of the wagons that still had some of the old food on the hood but I didn't see anyone around, my body felt like pure lead but I'd made up my mind right then; I needed the sleep n o w.
All goes nothing...
I jumped from the ATV and punched out one of the door handles to the wagon before I quickly slipped into one of the long back seats, the leather felt chilled to my exposed skin but I was beyond the point of caring, my body was mere seconds away from shutting down. I bent the handle in on itself so it wouldn't open from the outside and all but collapsed just as soon as the door was secured.
*
"Shh, she must have gotten here first, look at her."
No..let me sleep just a little more...please..
"She found a lot of food, I thought that town didn't have that much left in it."
Hershel and Rick...well, at least they're alive.
"There wasn't, she must have traveled a good bit for it."
I heard tires coming our way and I chose that moment to force my eyes open and sit up, stretching my arms up high above my head and over the back of my seat until my back popped. Rick smiled and tried to open the door but I just shook my head before I pointed at the window.
"I need to bust it open, scoot back a little."
He did exactly that and I flicked my wrist to shatter the glass without a second thought, careful of the shards of glass while I pulled myself out of the car.
"You look worse for ware, what happened while I was gone?"
Carl tried going through one of the black duffels but I yanked it from his hands and helped him with the zipper using a quick fluid motion, thankfully I'd slept with the pack that had most of the embarassing stuff.
"Same thing that always does, we got over-run when the sun started going down."
A blue truck and a silver car rolled to a halt on the other road and my eyes were looking for Daryl but I couldn't see him yet, one of the back doors to the car opened and Jay tumbled out in a hazed state; he had a lot of blood across his face and he was walking with a slight limp. When he saw me he smiled and started to cry, I ignored everyone else and ran right to him and threw my arms around his neck in a tight hug and his arms wound around my waist.
