Jenny thought her eye might develop a permanent twitch.
Dustin's foot was tapping restlessly against the floor of the car as she drove towards Starcourt, and he kept pulling his cap on and off every so often, distracting her eyes from the road.
"Oh will you just chill out?" She pleaded once he started making popping noises with his mouth. "You'll get to see him soon enough."
"Easy for you to say," Dustin scoffed, "you've spent every day with him for the past six weeks. You practically live together now." She couldn't argue with that, "Besides, I've got something super important I need to disclose to you both, so keeping me happy is in your interest."
Jenny rolled her eyes, "Here's the turn-off. We're here now. You can relax."
Dustin practically ran out of the car as soon as she pulled up the handbrake. She had to jog to keep up as he manoeuvred through the thickening crowd of the mall, pointlessly calling after him as he sped onward.
She finally caught up to him as he veered into Scoops, walking up to a less than enthused-looking Robin.
"Hi!" Dustin said excitedly. Robin's dead eyes looked briefly towards Jenny behind him before smiling.
"Hi," She said.
"I'm Dustin," He told her, pointing to himself.
Robin's brow furrowed, "I'm, Robin?"
"Pleasure to meet you. Uh, is- is he here?"
Jenny started giggling making Robin stare at her in confusion.
"Is... who here?"
The staff door burst open and Steve hurtled out, his sneakers squeaking against the floor as he threw his hands up in the air in celebration, "Henderson!" Dustin started shaking his fingers at him and laughing.
"He's back!" Steve cried, "He's back!"
"I'm back! You got the job!"
"I got the job!" Steve mimed a trumpet and skipped over to his young friend. Jenny backed out of their way, giggling at their excitement and Robin's clear confusion as they watched the boys do their dorky secret handshake.
"How many children do you have?"
Steve stopped laughing and lent his hand up against the glass, gesturing from Dustin to Robin.
"I'm guessing this is why you were begging to have your break before mine?" She asked, cocking up one of her eyebrows. Steve straightened up and hung his thumbs off his pockets.
"Yes. And I've already written it on my time card so no take-backs!"
"You go sit down," Jenny told the boys, "I'll bring you ice cream."
They high-fived each other and found a booth down near the entrance to the Parlour. Robin sighed as Jenny turned back to face her.
