~ 𝐌𝐀𝐃𝐌𝐀𝐗 ~
𝐓𝐔𝐄𝐒𝐃𝐀𝐘, 𝟑𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐅 𝐎𝐂𝐓𝐎𝐁𝐄𝐑 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟒It was one day until Halloween and the town of Hawkins was about to burst with festivities.
Jenny never understood why it was such a big thing.
For one, Samhain was a pagan tradition and America is pretty well known for its history of witch paranoia and rejection of un-organised religions. And two, with the crime rate especially high in the country, she had no idea how anyone heard "Hey children! Come into our homemade haunted house and you get cAnDy at the end!" and didn't immediately think to keep their children locked in their rooms for the night.
Especially after Will went missing last year.
But who was she to complain? Getting to dress up in costumes and eating sweets 'til you couldn't move sounded like a dream; regardless of the lack of stranger-danger awareness.
Unlike the lower grades and the rest of the town however, Hawkins High hardly showed any evidence of the holiday inside its walls, Jenny noticed as she walked down the empty corridors.
She had missed homeroom in order to buy herself and Steve breakfast bagels. Having to get herself to school almost every morning allowed her to be able to drive into town and grab food whenever she pleased, which always made her mornings just that little bit better.
Even if she may have made a habit of waking up later and being late to class.
First-period history was already full by the time she walked in, spotting Steve near the front of the class. His eyes lit up when he noticed her come into the room, and they lit up even more when he noticed the package in her hand.
He made a little 'o' expression as she handed him his bagel.
"You're an angel, Jenny Dean," He said.
"That. I. Am," She replied, sitting down on top of the table next to him.
He took a massive bite and moaned in satisfaction with a little smile on his face as if he were a child. His eyes suddenly went wide and he started waving his finger as if he was pointing at something.
"MM! Yur kno Mahck Lwins-he?" He tried to say, getting bagel crumbs all over the place.
"Ew Steve, don't speak when you're eating, and mouth closed when you're chewing!"
He put his finger up to say 'Wait' before swallowing hard.
"You know Mark Lewinsky?" He repeated. Jenny furrowed her brow.
"Yeah? What about him?"
"Oh-ho-ho!" He laughed sarcastically. "He totally ate shit at basketball practice yesterday and coach expects him to sub for Rodriguez who's out next game."
Steve furiously shook his head, disagreeing with his own statement and taking another bite of his bagel, "Disgra-sph-ful."
Jenny rolled her eyes. His lips pouted as his cheeks bulged with food. She swatted at his hair that was falling over his eyes and already somehow had crumbs in it, which he flinched away from, swatting at her hand.
"Is that seriously all you had to tell me?" She asked.
Steve stopped chewing and cocked an eyebrow up, "Uhh ish Lwins-he."
Jenny chuckled at his emphasis and softly pushed his forehead.
"You're such an idiot, Steve Harrington," She said with a smile. Steve's content expression faltered for a second as if she had said something wrong, but it disappeared as quickly as it came.
