Five weeks later.....
Metin stood inside the hospital lobby waiting for Emre and Leyla to arrive. He reached out to Leyla and hugged her and shook Emre's hand as they all turned to walk to the elevators. "I won't lie, I'm nervous for Can and Sanem-they've been through hell and back. I don't know what will happen if Sanem doesn't come back from this. Can, our family, we may not come back from this". Emre's words hung in the air as Layla reached her arm around her husband and held him tight. "Sanem is strong Emre-and my brother we'll fight for her and won't let her down. They haven't come this far to just give up". Metin understood Emre's fear all to well. He saw first hand how Yigit's insidious and warped game had torn his two friends apart. He witnessed a beautiful love become a black pit for them both. They found each other once again and managed to forgive each other and put their love before anything and everyone else and just when they were about to move on with their lives yet another catastrophe ensnared them. He blinked as the elevator pinged and came to a stop. They were here to support Can and Sanem today as the moment of truth was upon them. Sanem would be brought out of her coma today and soon they would know what the state of her beautiful mind was. They walked to the room and entered quietly. He allowed Leyla and Emre to speak with Can first while he sat back and nodded at his lifelong friend. He looked back at the bed where Sanem lay and felt anger rush through him momentarily before he stamped it down. That wouldn't do them any good. He had a job to do and he would do it. It had been difficult trying to piece together the information he had from Meriban (Melis) up until Yigit's arrest. That had been another hurdle to jump but once forensics and an internal review had been completed it was determined that Yigit had been shot by Engins police issued revolver and not Cans. It would have been a different scenario entirely had Can been at fault but although his gun was fired, it did not harm any one. The bullet shot from that gun was lodged in one of the side panels of the van. Although Can had indeed threatened Yigit and perhaps might have even killed him, the appearance of the paramedics and other first responders had changed the dynamic in the moment. Yigit took advantage and in a crazed state lurched toward Can trying to take away the weapon, forcing his arm back, setting off the gun. Engin ordered Yigit to stand down and when he didn't, fearing anyone could get shot, fired his own weapon hitting Yigit in the side. Everything had been explained to the satisfaction of the officials in charge of the investigation and finally Engin had been allowed to return to active duty while Can was not charged with any crimes. He had acquired his weapon legally prior to the accusation of his involvement with the Italian woman and so he was in the clear. Today he hoped to wrap up something entirely different which had come as somewhat of a surprise to him. He should have guessed it but the revelations from Melis and Sanems abduction had all but turned everything up side down. Now he understood what all this meant and the rants and ravings of a seriously mentally disturbed Yigit made sense. He would bet his law degree on the fact that it would clear Can entirely of the accusations against him along with clarifying the DNA evidence concerning the missing child. How it would affect the family would be another matter entirely. Hopefully they would understand that what Melis had suffered was no less than threats and blackmail from members of the wealthy family she was born into. He believed that it would go a long way in explaining why Melis had acted the way she had forcing Aziz out of his own home. He trusted that Aziz's good heart would acknowledge that she had tried to protect them all at her own expense. This family would survive it all and thrive if only Sanem would wake up. Can was at the end of his rope. He was never a man of great patience and this was stressing him to the limit. Today they were here to support him as the doctors gave Sanem the medications to bring her out of the coma they placed her in. Her scans had come back normal and the swelling was nearly gone. He was here to support his friends along with her brother and his sister. Sanems parents stayed home with their granddaughter and Aziz remained with a slowly recovering Melis. He said a small prayer to Allah to grant them all mercy. This family needed it so much.
