Chapter 26

It's midnight when I hear a knock on my door. I get out of bed and open the door to see Nancy standing in front of me, "N-Nancy?" I ask confused

"Hi Blue" She says

I can tell she's been crying, "Come in, is everything okay?" I ask worried

She walks past me, I shut the door and turn to her, "Not really, my entire life is a lie. My-my parents aren't really my parents...I don't know who I am anymore" She says crying

I pull her into a hug, "Hey, you are the same girl I met this summer. You're the sweet, kind, caring, brilliant detective that has saved my life more times then I can count" I say

She looks up at me, "Do you mean that?" She asks

I look at her, "Of course I do. You're one of the most important people in my life. I mean every word" I say

She smiles, "There's that beautiful smile" I say

"Can I...can I stay here tonight?" She asks quietly

"Of course. You can sleep in my bed, I'll take the couch" I say

"Blue, we can sleep in the same bed" She says

"Okay" I say

We head to my bedroom and she lays down first before I lay down next to her, "Thank you" She says

"Of course" I say with a slight smile

Next Morning

I wake up and see Nancy is still asleep so I get up and make her a cup of coffee. I walk back into my room to see Nancy ignoring a call and hiding under the covers, "What? Are we hiding out from the world today?" I ask placing the cup on the table

"Can we call in sick?" She asks still hiding under the covers

I sit down next to her and she comes out from under the covers, "I would love to but you aren't the only one George is trying to call" I say showing her my phone

"Ah, yes, of course she is" She says

"You know, we could always take a trip, get away for a few days. I think with everything that's happened, you deserve a few personal days" I say

"Yeah, yeah, I do deserve that" She says

"How about New York?" I ask

"Perfect" She says

"All right, we have to go to the Marvin's party because Bess has been begging us to go then we will leave right after. Sold?" I ask

"Sold" She says

I smile before I get up and start to get dressed when I look down and see hooks in my hand, "Ah!" I whisper yell

"Are you okay?" Nancy asks

I look back and there is just sand on my hand, "I'm-I'm okay" I say

Then my phone rings, "Um, hello? Ace?" I ask

I turn to face Nancy, "Uh, yeah, she's..." I start

She mouths 'no' and shakes her head, "Um, it's an emergency?" I ask

She sighs and I hand the phone to her. She talks to Ace then gets ready, "Where are we going?" I ask

"Ace wants to meet" She says

We get ready then she drives to the address he told her to and we wait outside of her car, "Thank you again for letting me stay last night" She says

I look over at her, "Of course, you are welcome to stay over anytime" I say with a smile
