Happy Hounds Bus Station

We walk around the bus station until we finally find Jennifer. Nancy brought a jacket for her since it's cold out. We walk over and take a seat next to her, "Your teammates asked us to find you" Nancy says

She hands her the jacket, "I'm Nancy and this is my girlfriend Skylar" Nancy says

Jennifer puts the jacket on, "Did you know there is a hidden compartment in the windowsill in room 413?" I ask

"The hotel staff fills it with chicken blood" Nancy says

"So gross" Jennifer says

"I think what happened was, whoever filled the compartment didn't close the hidden door all the way" I say

"So when you were in there alone by yourself in the dark, scared, you saw a sliver of light, and you ran" Nancy says

Jennifer scoffs lightly then looks at us, "Crashed is more like it. Right into the basement. And then this weird, angry French girl found me, she didn't seem to know what a cell phone was, but she had one on her and she let me use it" Jennifer says

"You made sure that the servants' door was shut behind you. So your teammates couldn't follow" Nancy says

"That was pretty extreme. We were wondering why" I say

She looks at us, "I wanted to vanish. College isn't what I thought it would be. I'm not who I thought I would be" She says

"I can relate" Nancy says

I grab Nancy's hand, "My whole life, all I cared about was getting into a good college. And when I did, I realized my whole identity was built around that. I didn't know who I was supposed to be now. That secret door, that was my ticket home. A way to just..." She takes a deep breath, "...disappear. Without being...that girl that dropped out of college" Jennifer says

"Then why haven't you left?" I ask

"We checked the schedule—there have been three buses that could have taken you home by now" Nancy says

"Never mind. You guys don't understand" She says

"I do understand" Nancy says

"We both do, trust me" I say

Nancy takes a deep breath, I grab her hand giving it a slight squeeze and a sympathetic smile, "You don't want to be the college dropout. Well you are talking to the high school burnout. Big dreams of going to a fancy school totally abandoned, because...my—my mom got sick...and she died. And so I stopped trying." Nancy says

"You're also talking to the black sheep disowned kid. The one who got kicked out of her house after high school and moved as far away as possible" I say

"But then I found some pretty—some pretty messed up stuff about my family. Then...my friend was murdered. And I realized that I am not who I should be. No college wants this version of me" Nancy says

I squeeze her hand, "You went through all of that? You solved a freaking mystery after all of that? Here I am, struggling with a minor existential crisis. Why did you guys let me talk for so long?" Jennifer asks

She looks at us and we give her a smile, "I think there's a reason you didn't get on that bus" Nancy says

"I think there's a reason you keep thinking about going to school. Maybe you're not who you thought you should be, but...who you are now is still pretty badass" Jennifer says

I nudge Nancy's shoulder, "She's right you know" I say

Nancy looks at me, "You, my beautiful girlfriend, are a badass. But more importantly, you are the girl I fell in love with. Any college would be lucky to have you" I say and kiss her cheek

"You two are adorable" Jennifer says and we smile

Back at Nancy's house

The girls just left and Nancy is sitting at her table on her computer. I walk behind her, placing my arms around her and lean down, "Whatcha doin?" I ask

She sighs causing me to look at the screen, "Columbia?" I ask

She nods her head, "I was thinking about applying but..." She trails off

"You should apply" I say

"You think?" She asks

"Yeah, you should" I say

She thinks for a moment then clicks the apply button. She types her first name in then gets to her last name. She looks at it then sighs before slamming the computer shut, "Ugh" She groans

I sit down next to her and turn her to face me. She puts her head in her hands, "Red... can you look at me please?" I ask softly

After a moment, she looks at me and I see tears in her eyes, "Oh, love" I say

I bring my hand up and wipe the tears from her face. Then I cup her cheek, "I don't know who I am. I don't even know what last name to put down on a damn college application..." She says rambling

I wipe her tears, "Baby, baby, hey, hey...I need you to listen to what I'm about to say, okay?" I ask

She looks at me and nods her head, "You are Nancy, my beautiful girlfriend, who I love very much. You are a brilliant detective who has save countless lives and mine more times then I can count..." I start

She lets out a soft chuckle, "...You are the girl who I fell in love with. No name or family lineage will change who you are. You have amazing friends who would do anything for you. As well as a girlfriend that loves you and will never leave you. You are the love of my life, Nancy and nothing will change that" I say

"You really mean that?" She asks

"Every word" I say

"Promise?" She asks

"Pinky promise" I say sticking out my pinky

She giggles, "Pinky promise?" She asks

I nod my head, "Yup" I say with a goofy smile

She wraps hers around mine, "Always and forever" I say

She smiles, "Always and forever" She says

I lean in and give her a kiss before pulling her into a hug, "I love you" I say

"I love you too" She says
