I look at her and we start walking; we look at all of the labels on the doors when we come up to one, "Nancy" I say and point
She opens the door and we walk in, "Mrs. Dodd?" Nancy asks
"Yes?" Patrice asks with her back facing to us
We shut the door, "How are you feeling today?" Nancy asks
"Just fine, what do you want?" She asks
"We actually want to talk to you about your daughter, Lucy" I say
"What about her?" She asks
"Did Lucy ever do anything to upset you?" Nancy asks
She turns to look at us, "What hasn't she done to upset me? Out all hours of the night with the wrong people, even last Friday" She says
I look at Nancy, "What date was last Friday?" I ask
"17th of September" She says
"In 1999" Nancy says
"Of course" She says
Then she looks at Nancy, "Wait, come closer" She says
Nancy does and she grabs Nancy's necklace, "Kate Drew, your Lucy's guidance counselor. I didn't recognize you without my glasses. What do you want? Did Lucy finally convince you I'm the Wicked Witch?" She asks
She looks at me, "Wait who are you?" She asks
"Her assistant" I lie
"Why would she do that?" Nancy asks
"Because she's starved for attention. Haven't you figured that out yet?" She asks
Mrs. Dodd, Lucy's friends at school have started saying some really unkind things about her" Nancy says
"Rumors, that's all they are, rumors. Those kids will never know the truth about my Lucy. I made sure of that" She says
"What did you do?" I ask
"Mrs. Dodd, did you hurt Lucy?" Nancy asks
"Course not" She says
"Do you know someone who could have?" Nancy asks
"Could have done what? Lucy's fine. Last time I saw her, she..." She says
Sh starts to get emotional, "I'm so sorry, I didn't um..." Nancy says
"She didn't come home, oh no...Not my Lucy, she can't be gone, she..." She says
Then she gets angry and stands up, "Who the hell are you two, you're not Kate Drew?" She asks
"I-I'm her daughter" Nancy says
Patrice starts to get close to Nancy so I step between them. She keeps walking towards us and we walk backwards, "All you want to talk about is Lucy. You're just like the other lady" She says
"What other lady?" I ask
"The one that left me the key to Lucy's secret. But no one will ever find it because I hid it" She says
"Where did you hide the key?" Nancy asks
"Someplace no one will ever find it. In the thin man's book" She says
"Is that here?" Nancy asks
"At Larkspur Lane?" I ask
"He calmed the sea with a whisper" She says
"Who are you talking about?" Nancy asks
"He stilled the storm with a whisper, and the waves of the sea hushed" She says
"Patrice, I..." She says
"Get out! Get out!" She yells
I grab Nancy's hand and we get the hell out of there, "That was—" I say
"Yeah" She says
We keep walking when the lights start to flicker then go out. We look up and see the mold has spread. We turn back around to see a ball and children laughing, "Nancy, Skylar. Did you find Patrice's room or do we have to do more laps?" George asks
"Okay is it just me or is this mold spreading really fast?" Nancy asks
"Uh, yeah. It was by the security desk too" Nick says
"When we opened the door to the East Wing, we must have unsealed whatever was containing it" Nancy says
"Great so that's our cue to leave" George says
"Not yet, we talked to Patrice but we didn't get anything that proves my dad's innocence. I think she has dementia" Nancy says
"What'd she have to say about Lucy?" Nick asks
"Only that she hid Lucy's secrets in a thin man's book. Then she said something random" Nancy says
"He stilled the storm to a whisper. The waves of the sea were hushed" I say
"That's not random, that's a bible verse, from Psalms" Nick says
"Oh so we go to church now?" George asks
"So, Patrice hid Lucy's secret in a thin man's Bible" Nancy says
"Who's the thin man?" George asks
"I don't know but I think I know who does" Nancy says
We go to find Sal, "A bit ago, we saw this very odd, very thin man walking down the hallway. Then every time we looked back, it looked as though he was farther away" Nancy says
"Oh, mercy. You saw Mr. Roeper?" He asks
"Who's Mr. Roeper?" Nancy asks
"Back in the 1870s, the East Wing of Larkspur Lane was the Roeper mansion. One morning, the milkman found the parents and their three kids lying side by side in this one dark room—the Whisper Box. They'd all died overnight, with smiles on their faces. Authorities couldn't figure out the cause. The townspeople started saying there was something evil that kept coming from that room. Up until about three weeks ago, the Whisper Box was just the place where they stashed the Roepers' old possessions, but when the hauntings started happening, it's where the cockroaches and mold came from. I believe it's the source of the haunting" He says
I look at Nancy, "This is a terrible hospital" George says
"I second that" I say
"How do I get there?" Nancy asks
"Nancy..." Nick says
"Don't do it. No one has been inside the Whisper Box since the haunting started" Sal says
"I will be fine, the Roepers died overnight" She says
I look at her, "You seriously want to go into this Whisper Box and see if Mr. Roeper's Bible is in there?" Nick asks
"And risk a gruesome, haunting death in the process?" George asks
"If it means finding out Lucy's secrets that could exonerate my dad, yeah" She says
"You really think we're gonna let you go in there alone?" George asks
"You two are on Larkspur Lane's most wanted list. If they catch me with you, this is all for nothing" Nancy says
"What about the girl who's not on the most wanted list?" I ask
She walks over to me and places her hand on my arm, "I will need her to come in and save me if I am not back in ten minutes" She says
She looks at me, "It's gonna be great" She says walking away
"Ten minutes! That's it!" I yell
