Sam's POV
"You got it?" I asked Dean lowly as I approached him.
He was sitting at the picnic table in Bobby's garage, staring intently at all four of the Horsemen's rings, which were scattered across the table before him.
Bobby and I had gotten home just a couple hours before he and Y/N did. I was still incredibly livid with her...but I regretted the way we left things before we parted ways. Jesus Christ, do I regret it.
My mind had been spiraling the entire time Bobby and I were taking care of the warehouse. There were a few times where Bobby essentially had to slap me to snap me out of it, but I couldn't help it.
She was going to face Death...and I was so pissed at her that I told her not to fucking touch me, and then I let her go. I felt like I had a right to be pissed. But nothing excuses just sending her off to meet the most terrifying of all the Horsemen without another word about it...I felt fucking horrible.
I was hoping I'd have a second to talk to her after they got home...try to talk things over now that I'd had a chance to calm down...but she slipped upstairs and locked herself in the bedroom before I even had a chance to catch a glimpse of her. Clearly, their venture was successful, given I could see Death's ring sitting right there...but something else must have happened. Something that got her severely shaken up. More so than she already was when we'd separated.
I tried knocking on the door...and she didn't answer. Didn't even say anything. And I could just feel her seething from the other side of the door, so...I figured it best to just wait for her to come to me.
Dean's solemn eyes flashed up to me as he heard me approach, and his lips formed a thin line as he nodded his head. "Yeah...I got it. I even know how to use them." he sighed, fidgeting with one of the rings in his fingertips.
My brows rose. "That's awesome! How did you manage that? What happened?" I asked as I took a seat across from him, studying all four of the rings carefully.
"He just....gave it to me." he sighed, setting down the ring he was toying with before running a hand back through his hair in frustration.
"He just...what?" I chuckled in disbelief. "The Death just handed you the last key and told you how to pop open the box? Just like that? Isn't he for the Apocalypse?"
"Apparently not." he shrugged. "I guess Lucifer has him bound and is forcing him to do shit he doesn't wanna do. He wants the devil back in the cage just like we do...doesn't give a fuck about this whole thing."
I let out another chuckle as I gawked at him. "I mean...that's good news, though...right? I just can't believe he just handed it over like that though-"
"It's conditional." Dean hissed, turning his head to look away from me, pain written clearly across his expression.
I tilted my head, my chest tightening up as I studied him. "You made a deal for it?"
"Not like that." Dean shook his head.
"So then what, Dean?" I demanded, crossing my arms over my chest.
He was silent for a while, much to my agonizing anticipation. But finally, he loosed a tired breath before turning to look back at me with sad, dim eyes.
