Five weeks had passed since Max had woken up from her coma. She and Lucas had slowly rekindled their relationship, taking things one day at a time.
But as they stood in Hopper's cabin, the tension between them felt palpable, like a storm brewing on the horizon.Max's chest heaved with anger, her hands balled into fists at her sides. Lucas stood before her, his eyes pleading for understanding. But Max was beyond reason, the hurt and betrayal from their past still fresh in her mind.
"Max, please, just listen to me," Lucas pleaded, reaching out to touch her arm."Don't touch me, Lucas," Max snapped, pulling away. "I don't want to hear it. I'm sick of your excuses and your lies."Lucas's shoulders slumped, the weight of his guilt heavy on his shoulders. "I'm sorry, okay? I made a mistake, and I regret it every day."
"Sorry isn't good enough, Lucas," Max replied, her voice trembling with emotion. "You promised me you'd never hurt me like that again, and yet here we are."Lucas hung his head, his heart breaking at the pain he had caused. "I know, and I hate myself for it. But I love you, Max. More than anything in this world.
"Max let out a bitter laugh, tears streaming down her face. "If you loved me, you wouldn't have done what you did. You wouldn't have betrayed me."The words hung heavy in the air, the silence between them suffocating. Max turned away from Lucas, her back rigid with anger."I hate you so goddamn much!" Max screamed, her voice filled with a cocktail of pain and longing. Without a second thought, she grabbed the nearest object and hurled it across the room, the sound of breaking glass shattering the quiet of the cabin.
Lucas watched as Max's walls crumbled before his eyes, her pain and anger spilling over like a flood. He knew he had to do something, had to show her that his love was worth fighting for.Slowly, he rose from his spot, stepping towards Max with caution. Gently, he took her by the waist and pulled her close, feeling her resistance melt away. Max rested her head against his chest, her sobs racking her body."Why do you even care about me?!" Max cried, her voice muffled against his shirt."Because I love you, MadMax," Lucas whispered, his heart breaking for the girl he loved so fiercely.
He cupped her face in his hands, pulling her close for a gentle kiss.Max felt the storm inside her begin to calm, the weight of his words sinking in. "I love you too, stalker," she whispered against his lips, before sealing their words with a kiss filled with forgiveness and love.In that moment, as the storm outside raged on, Max and Lucas found solace in each other's arms, knowing that no matter what trials lay ahead, they would weather them together.
