A month had passed since Max's accident, and Lucas had been there for her every step of the way. As he sat by her hospital bed, he watched anxiously as she stirred and slowly opened her eyes.
"Max, you're awake," Lucas exclaimed, relief flooding him as he reached out to embrace her.
Max's eyes widened with recognition as she returned his hug, feeling a wave of warmth and familiarity wash over her. "Lucas," she whispered, a smile spreading across her face.
Their eyes met, a silent understanding passing between them as they leaned in for a tender kiss. Their kiss was gentle and familiar, a wordless reassurance of the connection they shared.
"Lucas..." Max breathed his name, a soft melody on her lips as she gazed into his eyes.
But their moment of quiet intimacy was soon broken by Lucas's mischievous grin. "You know what, Max? I think it's tickle time," he teased, his fingers dancing across her sides.
Max squirmed with laughter, trying to catch her breath. "Lucas, stop it! It tickles," she giggled, a playful protest escaping her lips.
As Lucas and Max's tender moment was interrupted by Lucas's mischievous tickling, the sound of footsteps approached the hospital room. Dustin, Mike, Eleven, Will, Joyce, Hopper, and Erica, Lucas's sister, filed into the room, their worried expressions quickly turning to relief and joy at the sight of Max awake.
"Max! You're awake!" Mike exclaimed, rushing to her side and engulfing her in a tight hug.
Max smiled, feeling the warmth of her friends and family surrounding her. "Hey, guys," she greeted, her voice filled with gratitude.
Lucas, however, couldn't shake the pang of jealousy that gripped his heart as he watched his friends and family fuss over Max. He couldn't help but feel a twinge of possessiveness at the sight of them all crowding around her.
Noticing Lucas's distant expression, Max glanced up at him, her eyes filled with understanding. "Lucas, come here," she called out softly, her hand reaching out to him.
Lucas hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do, but Max's gentle gaze was all the encouragement he needed. With a nod, he approached her bedside, his heart pounding in his chest.
Max smiled softly, her eyes full of warmth as she pulled Lucas onto the hospital bed beside her. "You're my hero, Lucas," she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper.
Their lips met in a gentle kiss, a silent reassurance of the bond they shared. But their moment of intimacy was soon shattered by Erica's teasing voice.
"Get a room, nerds!" she quipped, a mischievous grin playing on her lips as she wagged a finger at them.
Max and Lucas couldn't help but laugh, their hands shooting up in unison to flash Erica the middle finger. Erica mirrored their gesture with a smirk, the playful banter only adding to the joyous atmosphere in the room.
As the others joined in the laughter, Max and Lucas continued to kiss, their connection unbreakable and undeniable. In that moment, surrounded by their loved ones, they knew that they had each other and that was all that mattered.
