Just when I closed my eyes, the NightHunter Alpha found my entrance.

There was nothing I could do to make this moment stop.

Just when I'd given up, there was a shout outside. "Stop!"

All sound stilled. Obeying that authoritative command which demanded obedience. A voice which knew how to make others will bend.

A quiet fell over everything and there was a bloom of darkness. Like a bleak cloud had just fallen over the camp. Blocking out every hint of light that'd previously come from the moon. Rendering even our refracting eyes nearly blind.

There were faint sounds beyond the door of this hut.

I heard other doors crashing through the forest and into the camp. Moments before a dark shadow filled the open doorway. Twisting to see off to my left, I could just glimpse the huge frame moving into the hut.

Who now?

Things were already about as bad as they could get.

I already imagined that it was more of the NightHunters.

The guards coming to their Alpha's rescue.

So soon? I'd prayed for more time.

But the man was across the room in a blur and tossing the wolf off me. I saw a dark cloak floating over me and resting over me as the man crouched over top of me, protectively. Roaring at the NightHunter Alpha in warning.

A mage?

Then things speeded up and there was a jumble of chaos.

The NightHunter Alpha lunged at the man over me, but he caught it around the ribs and brought it over his head and down on its face so hard that it nearly crushed his neck.

He whimpered. A low cry before skidding away. Turning with his ears pinned as he whimpered.

Feeling just as vulnerable now as I did moments ago.

When the man glanced over his shoulder at me, I could see the haze of bright blue eyes.

My vision was blurred from the injuries I'd had and from being terrified of what the Alpha would do. My brow furrowed as I stared in them. Feeling something familiar about that worried gaze. I blinked hard trying to clear my vision but only succeeded and causing a throbbing behind my brow. Before I could refocus, he'd already returned his attention to the NightHunter Alpha. My mates were at his sides. Snarling. Forming a protective line between that scarred wolf and me.

He won't get to me again.

I saw the familiar shadow of my final mate entering the hut.

Racer.

How'd he get here?

There was fear in the NightHunter's eyes. He twisted and bolted out a small flapping wood door. Rushing out into the night.

The males before me jerked in response, tempted to pursue him.

But to my relief, none of them left.

Racer was particularly close at my side.

"You're here." I whispered. Unwilling to admit how much I'd missed him in just the short time he wasn't with us. Already I'd felt like our family was incomplete. And the obvious gap in my mate's defense had made it clear to me we should've never left him.

We're one unit.

We love together. We fight together. And in my mind, I promised myself I'd never leave him again.
