"So, I wanted to tell you guys I've started seeing someone." I started to tell my parents after I'd spend a few hours with them. "And he wants to meet you guys."
Both of my parents wore the same look of surprise on their faces.
I've never felt confident in a relationship so much that I've introduced them to my parents. I've always cut it off before it got to that point, because I never let myself care enough about someone to do so.
But with Andrei, I fell for him without a choice in the matter. It happened naturally, and I couldn't have stopped it even if I tried to.
"Oh, um, okay." My mom said, looking over at my dad.
"Uh, are you sure?" He asked me, locking eyes with me. "Are you ready for him to meet us so soon?"
"Yeah. He means a lot to me." I said with a nod. "He suggested maybe coming over for the next pay per view to meet you guys, but I think maybe just the fight night coming up this weekend would be better."
"Does he like fighting?" My dad questioned. "If you don't think the pay per view would be a good idea, I'm guessing he doesn't."
"He doesn't hate it, he's just not into that stuff the way we all are. But he wants to do something while meeting you that we like, that you like. That counts for something right?"
"Yeah, I suppose it does." My mom thought out loud.
"Who's fighting this weekend?" My dad asked. "I can't remember."
"Tom Aspinall. He's fighting Marcin Tybura." I informed him. "That's the only fight on the card I really care about. The rest is mostly a bunch of unranked fighters."
Now that I think about it, it's kinda perfect. Most of the fights none of us are gonna care enough about for there to be a whole lot of pressure on Andrei.
I could see that my parents were debating in their heads on whether it's a good idea or not.
I had no doubt in my mind that they were gonna love Andrei. They were just worried because of the fact that I'm already so connected to someone. They knew this was a big deal for me.
"He's a really nice guy, and he means a lot to me. So it would mean a lot for you guys to meet him."
"Alright. Let's do it." My mom agreed, looking over at my dad.
"Yay! I'll call Joey and see if him and Olivia are free. We wanna do it here?"
"Yeah, that's fine. I'll think on a dish to make. You have any idea what you're gonna bring?"
"Hmm, not yet." I thought. "Probably some kind of dip, but I'm not sure yet. We've got the big fight card next weekend too."
"Make sure that boy brings something." My dad told me, which for some reason made me smile.
"I will, I will. He knows that we do pot lucks when we get together for the fights."
Should I tell my parents now or later that he just happens to be on the Bengals with Joey?
"Michaela." My mom said as I stood up. "What's his name?"
"Andrei." I told her simply. I didn't want to give a last name and her go looking him up.
She nodded, and I was thankful that she didn't ask for anymore information. I was thinking it would be best for them to get everything on Saturday when we come over.
I called Joey on my way to the hotel, and made sure that he and Olivia were free this weekend before telling him that I was bringing Andrei to meet everyone.
