Sasuke poked at the logs in the campfire with a small stick he found on the floor. He'd often steal a couple of glances at Maniko every now and then, just to make sure he was okay, regardless of the tealette insisting that he would be fine. The squad sat in silence as they watched the fish they struggled to catch, slowly cook at the fire.
"We're sure not gonna break any records.. And, we only have twenty four hours left.." Sasuke finally spoke up.
It had been days since their previous encounter with the sound ninja, which gave Maniko all the more time he needed to heal. Maybe not fully, but still to a certain extent. Both Lee and Ino's team went off on their own path, sometime after Maniko awoke, leaving the four to fend for themselves.
"I wonder how many of the other teams have already got their scrolls, and are finished.." Sakura frowned. "We have to face it.. There may not be any heaven scrolls left.."
"Well, that's a cheerful thought." Sasuke sarcastically stated, as he watched Maniko quietly move the now cooked fish away from the fire. In contrast, Naruto greedily eyed down the largest fish, hoping that he'd be the first to get his hands on it.
"It's true.. You said it yourself, Sasuke. This is the fourth day we've been out here, which means we've already used up eighty percent of our time to complete the exam.." The pinkette explained.
"Only thirteen teams can pass because there are only thirteen pairs of heaven and earth scrolls. And, we've got twenty six teams out looking for them." Sakura continued.
"I think it's mostly because we gave ourselves too much time to rest after that last fight.. Seriously guys, I'm fine!" Maniko insisted for the hundredth time, though the bruises on his face along with the sudden hisses at any movement he made didn't buy the boy any justice.
"I'm gonna get water." Sasuke suddenly changed the subject, standing up from the campfire. He then side glanced to Maniko. "You should come, too. So you can clean up all the cuts and blood." He hinted, walking off. Not even giving Maniko enough room for debate.
Maniko looked down at his bloodied clothing, and sweatdropped before rushing to catch up with the Uchiha. Leaving both Naruto and Sakura to feast on their fish.
