Deku's POV
We get back to the asylum with an intense silence hanging over us. I watch as Todoroki climbs off the back of the wolf sluggishly. His face has lost its color and he looks lost. The second his feet hit the ground his legs give out. Todoroki falls to his knees and pukes. I climb off my wolf in a hurry and rush to him.
"Are you okay Sho?" I ask, rubbing his back tenderly. He just shakes his head dazed.
"How do you do it?" He questions. My heart sinks knowing exactly what he means.
"I've killed many people over the years. It's hard to be a villain without taking a life or two. At some point you become numb to it. This isn't what I wanted for you though Sho... I'm sorry you that you were put in that position," I apologize as sincerely as I'm capable. He looks back up at me with teary eyes. Deep in his eyes I see the twig that's snapped. The piece of his humanity that he'll never get back. My wolves dissipate and I lift him up bridle style.
"Let's go inside and lay down," I whisper. He nods and continues to cry into my shoulder. Guilt overtaking me. I open the door and can hear the news report playing in the lounge just down the hall. Foot steps come rushing down the hall as I make my way towards the stairs. Denki emerges from the hallway but I pay him no mind. More focused on getting Shoto to the shower.
"Is he ok?" Shinso asks.
"He will be. Taking a life is hard. Committing a massacre as your first kill is even harder..." Denki drones, watching as I head up the stairs.
"Can we go to your room instead?" Todoroki whispers just before I reach his bedroom.
"Yeah that's fine," I respond sympathetically. So I take him to my room. Kicking open the door, I lay him down on the bed. Slipping off my vest, followed by both of our shoes, I lay down next to him and pull him into my chest.
"I didn't think it would be that hard..."
"Nobody does Sho. It's takes a special kind of monster to kill without ever losing sleep over it," I try to soothe him. Messaging his scalp as I run my hand through his hair.
"I promise to never put you in that kind of position again," I whisper.
Denki's POV
"He'll never take Todoroki with him again," I sigh solemnly. According to the news report only the officers lucky enough to be near the outer layers of the ice survived. Anyone who was stuck under the very thick sheet of ice haven't even been removed yet. After 20 minute of no air and ice eating away at their cells, they're long gone. The death toll is looking to be 12 but it's still undetermined.
"How can you be so sure?" Shinso questios.
"Izuku doesn't like to put the people he cares about in tight spots. He had a teammate once, until some of his enemies got ahold of him. After Izuku rescued him, he cut ties. Swore to never have a partner again. I was kind of hoping that Todoroki would be able to help me look after Izuku when he isn't home, but I don't think I'll ever get my way again," I explain to Shinso. I let out a deep sigh. It's partly my fault that Todoroki even felt the need to do that. Especially since there's no way he could ever return to his old life now. He's stuck here. Not like he was before, but it's hard knowing that I helped drive the final nail into his coffin. Shintou's hand rests on my shoulder gently.
