As Luz sat in the car, her mind drifted back to the conversation with Dana from last week. The memory played out vividly in her mind as she stared out the window, watching the world pass by in a blur."Hey, Luz," Dana had said casually, leaning against the edge of the set. "Just wanted to let you know, we've got that dance scene coming up. You and Amity need to practice for it, okay? We're counting on you two to have it memorized by February 3rd."
Today was the day they were supposed to start practicing, and Amity had already messaged her saying she was at the dance studio. With a sigh, Luz reached for her phone, scrolling through Amity's message on Instagram. They only had two days to prepare, and she couldn't afford to waste any more time.
Luz stepped out of the car, her bag slung over her shoulder, and leaned in to give her mother a quick kiss on the cheek before heading towards the studio. The cold air conditioning greeted her as she entered the building.
Despite it still being winter, it was getting hotter outside more recently. Inside the studio, Luz spotted Amity already there, stretching and preparing for their practice session. She couldn't help but admire the way Amity looked, even in her casual attire—a long-sleeve shirt that accentuated her slender frame. Her cap and glasses sat on the chair near her duffle bag and water bottle.
Luz tended to forget the girl was famous, and she especially didn't remember how tiny the girl was. Luz approached her, a small smile playing on her lips as she watched Amity's movements. She couldn't deny the flutter of excitement in her stomach as she realized they were about to spend the next two days working closely together. Luz joined Amity, ready to give it her all.
Luz placed her belongings next to Amity's, receiving a subtle nod from her to indicate that she could use the chair nearby if she wanted. With a quick glance around the studio, Luz decided to join Amity on the floor, stretching out her muscles in preparation for their practice session.
As Luz began to stretch, she tried to strike up a conversation with Amity, but her words were cut off by the arrival of the instructor. "Enough talking let's hurry up and begin." Amity immediately turned her attention towards the instructor, her focus shifting to the task at hand.
Luz couldn't help but notice the sheen of sweat dripping down the back of Amity's neck. Her eyes moved up to beneath her updo, where Luz caught a glimpse of Amity's buzz cut, a detail that she found strangely captivating.
Lost in her thoughts, Luz zoned out as the instructor began speaking, her mind drifting to Amity once again. She found herself wondering why she couldn't seem to stop thinking about her, a question that lingered in the back of her mind as they started their practice.
Lost in her thoughts, Luz failed to notice that Amity had already moved into position and was ready to begin dancing. It was only when Amity's concerned voice broke through her thoughts that Luz snapped back to reality.
"Hurry up, Luz," Amity urged, her expression filled with concern as she glanced at Luz. "Are you okay? You seem out of it." Caught off guard by Amity's sudden attention, Luz struggled to find her words. She managed a nod in response to Amity's question but couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered within her.
As Luz made her way towards Amity, she found herself at a loss for what to do. The instructor's impatient voice cut through the silence, demanding that Luz hurry up and join the practice. Feeling flustered and out of sorts, Luz approached Amity, her mind still racing. Finally, she admitted, "I don't know what to do."
The instructor's frustration was evident as they scolded Luz for not paying attention. Luz could feel the weight of their disappointment.
Amity let out a soft sigh and reached out, gently taking Luz's hand in hers. Luz was taken aback by the unexpected gesture, her eyes meeting Amity's in surprise.
