Alex's POV

After Miss Rose had left, Dom and I have been sitting in the room in silence. He had his arm around my shoulder while I head my head on his shoulder. We were sitting in silence when suddenly Dom's phone rang. He looked at me apologetically when he saw the caller id. I gave a reassured smile and with that he went out to receive the call. I looked at Ryan and hoped that I will be able to adopt the kid.

I know it is very hard to raise a child but I know I can do it. Miss Rose had asked every single thing about my life and me. Questions like who are my parents, who are my siblings, how is my living condition, how is my neighborhood, if I work or not, what jab do I have, how much do I earn, do I go to school, will I be able to provide the needs of Ryan etc etc. I gave all the answers truthfully. I really want Ryan under my roof. I don't want him to go through what I did when I was in orphanage. It can be a cruel place for some.

A few minutes later Dom entered and looked at me guilt. "Is everything alright?" I asked. "Yeah it's just that my mom is asking me home." Dom answered. Oh I knew he had to go home and I was fine with that. "Oh that's alright. It's getting late anyways you should go home." I reassured him. "Are you sure? I can stay here if you want" Dom offered. I smiled at him and replied, "Dom, go home. I'll be fine. If anything happens I'll call ya. Okay?" I said. Dom nodded and muttered fine. He looked at me and hugged me. He kissed my forehead and let his lips linger for a few second. This gave me warm feeling of care. I tried not to blush. After a few more seconds, Dom left.

I sat on the chair that was near the bed and took Ryan's hand in mine. He was yet to wake up. It was around 10 pm and all those cliff jumping activities had tired me out. I felt my eyes start to close so I rested my head on the bed. Soon I went into the deep slumber.

I woke up when I felt a very small and gentle movement around me. When I opened my eyes I was a bit disoriented but once I looked around and realised where I was everything came back like a slap. I looked towards where I felt the movement and saw that Ryan was waking up. I looked at the time and it was 4 in the morning. I stood up and slowly moved towards him to not to startled him .

Ryan tried to open his eyes and after two tries he was successful. When he opened his eyes he had a nervous look on his face. He looked around the room trying to comprehend what was happening. When we noticed someone else was in the room, he looked at me. I could see the recognition in his eyes but also fear. "Hey buddy." I whispered softly. I saw him flinch back a bit when I moved forward. That broke my heart completely but I should have expected that reaction.

"It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you." I reassured him as I moved slowly towards him. He tried to say something but started coughing. I quickly but carefully reached for the glass of water which was on the table and gave him after helping him sit. After he drank the whole glass he passed the glass to me. "You good. Do you need more water?" I asked. He shook his head. "I hope you remember me. I'm Alex we met at the arcade on Friday." I explained. "I remember you Alex. You had given me the phone." Ryan whispered.

I nodded relived that he hasn't forgotten me. "That's great." Ryan looked around and asked, "Where am I?" I smiled sadly and answered. "You are in the hospital." Ryan looked down and fiddled with his finger. "Would you like to talk about it?" I asked softly still maintaining my distance. Ryan looked at me with glossy eyes but shook his head. I nodded reassuring him it's alright. "It's okay. Whenever you are ready to talk I'm here. Okay." I smiled warmly. Ryan nodded shyly. "Now come on rest for a while it's still too early to be awake." I said helping him sleep. I was walking back to the chair when Ryan hold my hand. I looked at him. "I'm scared." He said his voice cracking. I took a deep breath cause it hurts to hear him like that. "You have nothing to be scared of. I won't let anything hurt you. Not anymore." I said as I slowly wiped the tear which escaped from his eyes. I reached down and kissed his forehead. I tucked his blanket and sat on the chair.

Ryan looked at me with the sleepy eyes and I smiled at him. I saw a tiny smile and then he closed his eyes. I promise you buddy, nothing and no one is gonna hurt you. Not on my watch. Even if I don't get to adopt you I'm always going to look after you. I'll do whatever it takes to make your life better
